Karlus Maxton was a dreaded pirate of the Expanse some fifty-odd years ago - so renowned among the vagrants of the sea that he still commanded their respect after retiring, and even managed to keep them away from the business ventures he invested in - but after earning more money than he could ever spend he paid off his bounty and settled down in Korosa, marrying Yasmin Maydlow and elevating the Maydlow family to noble status by his wealth alone. He soon fathered Rashona, who is now Highlady Abither.
Unfortunately, Karlus died under mysterious circumstances just before the birth of his second granddaughter.
