Meretincelle Family
The Meretincelle Family is one of the six ruling houses of Reishi Island. They are considered to be the most dominant, as they have been the clear victors of the last two Reishi war games, due mainly to their understanding of how to create seaspark. By leveraging this power and influence, they secured the rights to managing trade and taxation on Reishi Island.
Structure
The Meretincelle Family is currently a family of four; the mother, Ezola Meretincelle, the father Karam Meretincelle (who married into the family), and two daughters, Eloise and Danielle Meretincelle. Ezola is considered to be the leader of the family and as such is the Oligarch, as she is the one related by blood to the noble Meretincelle line, while Karam comes from the lesser Reynolds family.
On top of her duties as an Oligarch, Ezola also frequently oversees the production of seaspark in the Meretincelle Labs. Meanwhile, Karam manages Richer Rivals, Korosa's merchant guild, Eloise runs the Cabane Hospital, and Danielle manages Purity Springs, Korosa's most luxurious spa.
Culture
The Meretincelle Family is characterized by ruthless greed, even more than most in Reishi. Each one of them, as well as those who work under them, are able to squeeze as much coin out of any given situation as is reasonable possible, and they are willing to resort to underhanded tactics to get just a little bit more gold. Beyond their cutthroat nature, the Meretincelles are genuinely intelligent and, in the case of Eloise, fully capable of empathy and kindness... so long as it doesn't affect her coinpurse.
Public Agenda
The Meretincelles do what they are supposed to: managing trade and taxation in Korosa and larger Reishi, but they have dipped their toes into a few other areas. Spas, the hospital, and shipwrights all fall under their jurisdiction, along with the expected trade guilds and their labratory.
Assets
As an Oligarchic family, the Meretincelles have a sixth of the idyllic Citadel Armarantha to themselves, but they also own an ancestral home in the Taylan district should they ever lose their position on the council. They, of course, also own the Meretincelle Labs, the Richer Rivals merchant guild, Purity Springs, Cabane Hospital, the Bubbling Seawater alchemical shop, and Wavebreakers shipwright.
The amount of money they have in their possession is constantly in flux - with an upward trend, of course - but it is safe to assume that the are far and away the richest people in the city of Korosa, seeing as they technically own nearly all of the merchant vessels sent out into the Expanse and they receive taxes from every sale made in Korosa.
