Cerberus (serr-BERR-uhs)
A Cerberus is an extremely large three-headed dog that guards the entrance to Hell. They have fully black fur with red glowing eyes. Their speed rivals that of a grim, and their power with fire is close to that of a fully-attuned fire dragon; a single swipe of their paw would set a forest aflame. They lead exceedingly long lives, and a cerberus, typically, will need only to be replaced every five hundred years.
Basic Information
Anatomy
A cerberus is a hellhound that has grown two extra heads, and grown to an immense size. It somewhat resembles a Doberman Pinscher with cropped ears, but an undocked tail.
Genetics and Reproduction
When the current Cerberus dies or is killed, a new one must be appointed. The dying Cerberus will keen, and by doing so, call all of Hell's hellhounds to the gate. (If it was an intruder that killed the Cerberus, they will most often be ripped to shreds then and there.) The generals of Hell will give each hellhound a thorough examination, and when they have decided, the selected hellhound will need a day to undergo its transformation via the associated ritual (during this time, they assign high-ranking devils to guard.) The hellhound will by then have sprouted two extra heads, and grown large enough to guard the gate. Thus is the neverending cycle. It is a great honor for a devil's hellhound to be chosen, both for the hellhound and its owner.
