The Dead Woods
The Dead Woods is a woodland expanse filled with the twisted corpses of countless trees afflicted by malignant necrotic energies. This arborous wasteland covers some 70,000 square miles of land between the Elfwood to the south and the Bitter North to the, um, north. It also stretches from the Coastal Lands to the west, almost to the Dwarven Mountains in the east.
Geography
The Dead Woods is a mostly flat area with several rolling hills, all covered with the tormented and warped remains of trees.
A river also runs the length of the Dead Woods from east to west.
Localized Phenomena
Deadly necrotic magicks are at work in this land. While not a constant effect, it is not unknown for living things to suddenly decay, and for dead things to spontaneously reanimate.
Fauna & Flora
There is limited documentation that some of the corpse-like trees of the Dead Woods have warped into carnivorous plants by the strange necrotic energies at play in these lands.
Undead can be found wandering throughout the Dead Woods. When not under the control of a necromancer, or tied to a location by some other ritual, undead have a strange attraction to this place and will make all possible effort to reach these woods. No reason has yet been discovered for this behavior.
Necromancers, foolish beings that they are, will sometimes come here to take a shortcut to building their undead horde. Luckily most of those that travel here do not survive their visit. So, if you are unfortunate enough to be within the Dead Woods, and see a zombie wearing tattered arcanist robes, you can be assured that it was once a necromancer, as it eats your brains.
Frost Bears can be found here on occasion. To them a zombie is merely slow moving carrion. Not much bother at all.
Other beasts and monsters can be found in these woods, often twisted in subtle or grotesque manners by the maddening necrotic powers operating in these parts.
Natural Resources
corpse-wood that contain a stable amount of necrotic magicks can be used in several assorted arcane enchantments.
The necrotic magicks at play in the Dead Woods are intriguing and troubling. Nothing good can come from that blighted place.
