Carissa Pinejumper

INVOLVEMENT

Fritz, Drant, and Jalan first had the pleasure of meeting Carissa when they (successfully) attempted to sell to the government what used to be free power.1

Carissa holds animosity towards adventurers because “they act outside the law more than within it,” but through bribery and mudslinging, a deal was struck to sell power to the government who would then upsell it to factories/the public. Over the year the party spent in Stonedeep, they - and Fritz in particular, who proved useful in drafting schematics to systematically shut off power to certain quadrants - became good friends with Carissa. She became somewhat suspicious of their power generation, however, and sent a party of inspectors to the plant.2 The inspectors were ambushed and impersonated by The Mechanical Enlightenment, and the party had to bend over backwards to reassure Carissa that their power generation means were completely above-the-table and that they were not in fact responsible for the deaths of her investigative team.3 Jalan accidentally turned her onto his scent when he mentioned that he was a foreigner, and determined to make sure he had the proper paperwork, Carissa began an investigation which spurred the party into their first heist of the Volaris Embassy.4

She was ultimately responsible for Robin Stormcaller's acquittal after hearing Fritz and Jalan’s testimonies.5 She is closely involved in the design and construction of the prison at the power plant facilities, and has contracted Fritz to design a new security system for the Embassy after the successful invasion of her offices. She was tailed to a secret meeting at the Patzeria and separately went to Carissa’s house following their meeting.

She (on the government’s behalf) has since entered into a separate contract with the party regarding their new prison extension.6 She asserted her dominance by taking brief control over their interrogation space and interrogating each member in turn, trying to determine their allegiance. She was responsible for getting them the Nevermore contract, and for sending them into the mountains to complete the contract on Tristan Jeochhmann.7

The party managed to successfully deceive Carissa into believing Jeochhmann’s archer underling (Penelope Flair) was in fact the bandit commander she’d put a contract out on through clever use of a half-charged interrogation crown,8 and upon discovering the potentially volatile nature of the mountain Research Outpost, Carissa demanded that it be destroyed lest it fall into the wrong hands.9 In the election for public office, the party was recruited to promote Carissa using what political pull they had, but they went behind her back using the services of both Daryl Borksnob and Stan the Janitor Man to unseat her and put Francesca Liverworth in her place.10

The party discovered from her apparent sister, Meghan Pinejumper, that Carissa was an intensely antagonistic child, and even harbored enough hatred of her own parents for not accepting her sexuality that she was the apparent cause of their tragic and unexpected deaths in an estate fire. Upon her loss of the election, she subtly announced that she would use her newly acquired intimacy with extorting technology to make a profit across the continent teaching higher governmental officials her techniques and charging immense sums for the knowledge.11
