Robin Stormcaller

When the Soular Power Plant was investigated by a small mercenary group from The Mechanical Enlightenment impersonating the Obsidian Guard, all of the intruding members were killed or incapacitated. In Fritz's attempt to remove the surviving cultists from their flux suits in order to study the technology, Robin was the only one who survived the suits' self-destruct defense mechanisms.1

The party's following interrogation of Robin revealed much about his past and motivations. His motivation for joining the Mechanical Enlightenment in the first place was that he was not an official citizen of Creeh Colony, and The Volaris Empire is not particularly accepting of (especially undocumented) foreigners. He wanted to join an activist group to make a change and fight for his freedom - but was thrown into an automated flux suit and lost what little freedom he'd had.

According to Robin, his squadron ambushed and killed the squad sent from The Inquisition to legally investigate Soular Power, and took their place. The party then brought Robin to Carissa Pinejumper in a bid to convince her that the missing (and soon to be found mutilated) Inquisition squadron was not the party's fault, and that it was instead the fault of this cult which Robin was ostensibly a member of. They are let off the hook, but Robin is put on trial for treason.2 Fritz testifies at his trial, forcing Jalan to do the same, and Carissa overrules the judge to officially acquit Robin of the charges brought against him. Robin declares himself indebted to Fritz, and by extension the rest of the party, and immediately ingratiates himself under their employ - without pay.3

Robin very briefly served as the Head of Security within the Soular Power Plant before Gregory Hammstein challenged him for the position, and even in the absence of that he continues to serve as an integral (and cost-free) member of the team.

As a member of the Mechanical Enlightenment, Robin is quite technically savvy. He has spent much time under Fritz learning the basics of tinkering and is considered her Expert Sidekick, offering her reduced crafting times as regards crafting new technologies. [It should be noted that under the new Darkest Dungeons system, he takes stress for doing so.]

Robin is the only member of the extended Combat Crew who did not wake up with any visibly new powers after the Vocantem.

On the road between Stalwartz and Streamwalk, when the Soular Power Caravan was ambushed on all sides by ghosts of their past transgressions, Robin was killed attempting to aid Fritz in her skirmish with Watson and the Mechanical Enlightenment cronies. Fritz screamed for Alvira and threw herself and Robin's body off of the small overhang where they'd been fighting the Mechanical Enlightenment, just as the cronies' mech suits surrounded them, and the barest instant before they exploded in unison.

Alvira was able to begin performing emergency surgery immediately, and after an uninterrupted hour-long procedure was able to bring Robin stably back to life, though he lost an eye to the trauma.4
