Gizmo

Gizmo is an eccentric tinker with a passion for marine biology, who lived on Atrya during the era of the A**hole Vigilantes.

INVOLVEMENT WITH THE VIGILANTES

The Vigilantes' first encounter with Gizmo was less than polite, while they were chasing terrorism suspect Peter Catoreen down, into the belly of a mechanical sub-aquatic vehicle of sorts that we are under no circumstances allowed to call a submarine. Gizmo guarded a passageway in the ship in a mechanical exosuit, and stopped Ragnar Volaris when he tried to pass through under the effect of an illusion. Vanessa attempted to Reduce the tinker's exosuit, hoping to kill him instantly, but failed so badly that her spell Enlarged the suit instead, wedging itself tightly in the passageway and suspending the aghast Gizmo aloft. Gizmo watched helpless as the intruding Vigilantes assaulted Catoreen, unable to do anything but shout obscenities about the a**holes that were destroying his ship. Vanessa released her spell Enlarging Gizmo's exosuit and she and Ragnar convinced him to aid them in battle rather than fight against them, as they believed Catoreen's Suggestive magic had forced Gizmo to comply against his will. Once Catoreen fled from the ship, Gizmo regained his autonomy and submitted to the Vigilantes, realizing he'd been tricked by the uncannily suave mage.

Desperate to disengage the bomb which threatened the Queen Anne's Revenge, the Vigilantes asked Gizmo if - being extremely technologically minded - he had by some chance designed a bomb meant to take down an airship. And by golly, he had - and knew how to disarm it. The Vigilantes delivered Gizmo to the airship and Heimdall gave him magical protection against the deadly energy within the room where the bomb was planted. Gizmo valiantly risked his life disarming his own contraption, a la Spock, but saved both the airship and himself from certain doom with his efforts.

After this tense series of events, the Vigilantes finally took it upon themselves to ask Gizmo about himself (though, to be fair, it is a rare gesture of humanity from them). Gizmo admitted that he was a marine biologist with a hobby for tinkering before Catoreen 'recruited' him to his terrorist cause.

Gizmo insisted upon tagging along on the Vigilantes' final hunt to eliminate Catoreen, though he caved and tried to convince Ragnar not to kill the rogue enchanter and to show him mercy - after Catoreen once more tried to charm the Vigilantes into letting him go, Vanessa said "fuck this" and killed him anyway, with Ragnar absorbing his soul and gaining the power of Suggestion.

The Vigilantes once more asked Gizmo's aid in convincing The Druid to cooperate with them, as they believed that Gizmo's marine biologist knowledge would be extremely enticing to the land-locked Druid. He agreed to assist them under one condition - that he be allowed to work alongside Dewey, and would share the knowledge of his submarine sub-aquatic vehicle in exchange for Dewey's knowledge of the airship. With Ragnar attempting to head these negotiations, they failed spectacularly, though when he finally swallowed his ego and reached out to Vanessa for help, she was able to broker a partnership between the two eccentric inventors which both would find beneficial in the months to come. Additionally, in exchange for his marine biology knowledge, Gizmo learned of land biology from the Druid.

In the final battle within the throne room against the King of Atrya, Gizmo was one of many surprise allies who jumped into battle on the Vigilantes' behalf, allowing them to focus their energies on taking down the King himself and his guardsmen.
