Dewey

INVOLVEMENT WITH THE VIGILANTES

Dewey was recruited by Vanessa outside of Granting as a part of her small force of elite specialists, the others being Nevermore, Cinnamon, Kratos, Chief, and Arthur. To win the eccentric old wizard's loyalty, Vanessa gifted him a number of tomes which she had acquired in recent adventures, for which she either had no further use, or which she was concerned about keeping safeguarded (some, from members of her own party). In return, the sequestered wizard - who had nothing but ineptitude for political or social negotiations, therefore no concept of betraying his allies - pledged his undying loyalty to Vanessa (and Vanessa alone, to Ragnar's annoyance).

Dewey was tasked with converting the Queen Anne's Revenge from a water ship into an airship, and outfitted it with many impressive bells and whistles. When the grounded airship was targeted with a bomb that threatened to cripple her permanently, Dewey was able to disable (or delay) the bomb just long enough that the Vigilantes could track down the bomb's inventor - a quirky tinker named Gizmo - who could disarm it permanently. The party sought Gizmo's further cooperation in placating The Druid, which he agreed to under the condition that he get to work with Dewey and exchange schematics and ideas; he was primarily interested in the mechanisms of the airship, and would offer up his own work on his submarine in exchange. Ragnar Volaris tried (and failed) to get Dewey's cooperation without consulting Vanessa, then trying and failing to steal the documents Gizmo wanted. During this failed escapade, Ragnar discovered that Dewey's lair is an impossible maze, with a chamber dedicated entirely to scrying sensors automatically recording the events they witness - notably, with scrying sensors attached to each of the Vigilantes themselves. When Ragnar finally swallowed his pride and consulted Vanessa, she was able to cordially work out an agreement between the two geniuses, striking off a partnership that both would find friendly and fruitful.

When the Blood Moon descended across Atrya, Vanessa tasked Dewey with researching the phenomenon and ways they could eliminate it, and he gave them the insight needed to successfully neutralize it during their final assault on King's Landing.

As the Vigilantes took their first steps into the throne room of the King of Atrya, when all hell broke loose, Dewey was one of the surprise group of allies which turned the tide in the Vigilantes' favor and allowed them to focus their efforts on the king and his personal guard. Dewey tackled an old wizard who had flung himself at the party summoning a massive burst of magic, pushing him through a portal with the battle cry of "not again, brother!", and simultaneously opening two other portals which summoned the Obsidian Guard to square up with the archers in the rafters. Dewey later explained that the mage was indeed his brother, and that they had discovered some secret of immortality simultaneously, which he had decided to use for good, while his brother used it to 'fuck with humanity.'

After the Vigilantes' victory and Ragnar's coronation as king, Dewey was graciously offered the title of Admiral of the Fleets, which he was reluctant to accept, though he did ultimately do so with the promise that he could continue his work independently and call into important meetings remotely.

INVOLVEMENT WITH THE ASCENDANTS

When the ascendants' fledgling kingdom was harried by the elven mech fighters, they sought out Dewey's knowledge on their slippery opponent. After some persuading ("I am not at your beck and call, mortals!"), Dewey gave Ragnar a one-time pass into his dimension of cameras and infinite knowledge, which Ragnar used to gain information about Talodithius, and also immediately break Dewey's trust by attempting (and failing) to summon an imp to infiltrate farther into the plane. Dewey meanwhile insinuated that he can see some future events that will come to pass, but had taken an oath that he wouldn't tell Ragnar (and by extension, Heimdall or Vanessa) details that might change the outcome.

It is around this time when Dewey notices that Vanessa no longer appears within his ridiculous camera system - he confronts her and attempts to get her to agree to wear a specially designed scrying sensor, but she refuses, offended by the notion.

When the ascendants stumbled across what appeared to be time machines within the underground shadow facility, they summoned Dewey, who immediately looked distressed at the existence of time travel which would 'make his books inaccurate'. When later consulted on the same subject, Dewey was incredibly insistent that the past cannot be changed (unless, he made the caveat later, the event took place after the time machine had already been functioning, as you simply couldn't change events that took place before a functioning time machine existed). Dewey also made a direct reference to The Forefathers, who he stressed would interfere to set the world straight if the situation got out of hand.
