Gregory Hammstein

ACQUISITION

Gregory Hammstein was first encountered as a nameless but notable member of the small security detail the party hired to guard the Soular Power Plant.¹ He is a half-goliath, and the party does not know of his origins or background before he was hired. He challenged Robin Stormcaller for the position of Internal Chief Security Officer, and quickly proved himself knowledgeable in the organization and operation of a security team.²

COMBAT STYLE

Gregory is a very competent martial fighter, who also has some uncanny magical abilities. He prefers to wear full plate armor - his newest set composed of Cold Iron¹² - and wields a greatsword. He has blindsight out to 5 feet, and is able to enhance his strikes with Precognition four times a day. After the Vocantem, he also seems to have gained the ability to levitate, though the limits of this ability have not yet been tested.

BATTLE PROWESS

Gregory proved his prowess for combat beyond routine security duties when the party infiltrated the Research Outpost in the mountains, where his clear superiority in combat spurred the party to give him a generous raise.³ He seems to have acquired the power of levitation in the aftermath of the Vocantem, and has continued to prove his immense battle prowess in the battles during and following the party's flight from the facility.⁴ He was crucial to the party's success in fleeing the facility, in overtaking the Research Outpost, and especially in defeating the horde of wargs that chased them down the mountain, a battle in which his role will never be forgotten.⁵ He attempted to buy the Pleasure Barge some time by charging his horse backwards into the horde, but failed and fell off - at which point Jalan cast Darkness on the tip of his sword. Being the absolute blindsight [5ft] madlad that he is, he nearly singlehandedly took down 12 wargs and their riders while hardly sustaining any damage himself, all in a spectacular reverse-strobe-light orb of darkness which blinked out of existence every time he plunged the tip of his sword into one of his enemy's bodies.

Gregory was also present when the party riddled out and recovered the Millennium Scales,⁶ and was actually the first to notice the warg horde chasing the party down the mountain, giving them just enough time to react.

Gregory is the longest-standing member of the Soular Power Caravan's Combat Corps, and has proven himself indispensable many times over.

PARTY RELATIONS

Jalan Kendith was responsible for Gregory's acquisition with the rest of the security team, but Gregory shows no more loyalty to him than any other member of Soular Power. Fritz has been frequently responsible for providing Gregory with raises and upgraded equipment,^{7,8, 9, 10} and has been very keen on keeping Gregory satisfied and at the top of his game. Isabelle appears to have some sort of crush on Gregory, though he remains completely oblivious to this fact.¹¹
