Dragon King

The Dragon kings are the de-facto leader of the various species of True Dragon. Most of them are the first born of Yurnith after she was killed by Rainor however occasionally, but very rarely, one may be killed (possibily by divine intervention or by a fellow Dragon King) or may leave the world to wander the multiverse. In the case of the latter, unless another dragon claims the title for themselves which can incur the wrath of the current holder even from another world, the dragon is still considered that species' Dragon King though contact with that individual can be difficult.   The origional Dragon Kings are the most powerful entities in the mortal world, all of them being Greatwryms. Whenever a dragon becomes a Greatwrym, it almost always means war between the Dragon King and the new, younger one. Exceptions have been made but due to the usual violent nature of becoming a Greatwrym, although rare, does mean to challenge the older one.   Of the origional children of Yurnith, only the Gold, Amethyst, Blue and Green Dragon Kings are still alive and keep their title of Dragon King. The Origional Silver Dragon King Bahamut asscended to godhood.   While most Dragon Kings are Greatwyrms, its not an actual requirement to be declaired as such though it does help. Most dragons respect age and power but others, like the white dragons, simply choose the oldest Ancient White Dragon as the Dragon King. Crystal and silver Dragons choose their king by a majority vote until another vote is called.   When a dragon becomes a Dragon King, even if they are not a Greatwyrm, their power immiediatly increases due to the shared belief of their kin that they are the greatest of their species. The title of King is not simply a title, it is a declaration of authority and power that lesser dragons can not deny. Many Dragon Kings insist to be called Dragon Gods in an attempt to reach godhood.

History

When Rainor came to the world, there was only Yurnith. A titanic dragon of pure chaos and primordial power who ruled the world as her own horde. While the world was mostly empty, it was still her lair from which she would visit other worlds for treasures to bring back to her colossal horde.   Rainor eventually came to this world and challenged Yurnith for ownership of the planet. This battle would last for thousands of years and would only come to an end when Rainor managed to separate Yurnith's body from her spirit and then shattered it into many pieces. These pieces would eventually become the first chromatic, metallic, and gem dragons and later become known as the Primordial Dragon Kings.

Cultural Significance

Dragon kings very rarely get involved in the affairs of mortal races, most believe that there is little point considering the fleeting lives of the mortal races, however, even when they do get involved, they never do so directly, choosing instead to either send their kin or shapeshifted as a mortal.   Most of the Dragon Kings wage eternal war on Yurnith's Fall vying for domination of the continent as the king with the most territory there is considered by many to be the most powerful, though some, like the gold and green kings choose to ignore this battle entirely instead focusing on their own goals.   The Dragon Kings have been known to occasionally demand tribute from various countries and cities to disuade them from reducing the country to ash.

Love me some dragons. Just a heads up, the very first Dragon King in the article, as well as the first after Cultural Significance, doesn't have a capitalized K. Seeing as the rest in the article do, figured this was accidental.
