Blackheart
Blackheart city sits at the heart of the shadowy island of Lovuda, home of the Shobu condemned to their perpetual quarantine. The city rests on a great disk of stone that floats at the bottom of the island. The city is characterized by huge black spires that sprout from the ground and stretch several hundred meters into the air, with the tallest spire even breaching the surface of the island. The spires continue to grow, though at a glacial speed. The Shobu carve their homes into these towers, creating intricate complexes of interlocking rooms from the seemingly living ebony material.
Demographics
Blackheart is completely composed of Shobu, although there is no specific ban on other peoples from living on the island (should they be capable).
Government
Blackheart is the seat of power for The Esoteric Order of Daegon, a religious order devoted to the worship of the great Deagon, the Source Dragon upon which the Shobu have built their faith and lives upon. The Order are the enforcers of the strict class system of the Shobu, and dictate every civic aspect of daily life in the city.
Defences
Blackheart city believes itself to be the most secure settlement in the Skies, as it is said to be protected by the Source Dragon Deagon. As Blackheart has never faced any serious threat, however, these claims have yet to be substantiated.
Districts
Blackheart is divided vertically, with the clerical Esoteric Order of Daegon residing on the bottom level of the city (closest to their god) and the other classes living higher and higher upon the tower. While no resident is disallowed from entering any part of the city, residences are strictly divided by class, and the lower classes are made to live higher in the towers.
Points of interest
Blackheart is decorated with hundreds of statues, seeming to depict nightmarish amalgamations of sea-life that represent the final stages of Shobu mutations. The reason why these statues are so lifelike is because, in reality, they are the bodies of Shobu that hardened post-death into an unliving statue. This unique phenomena is caused by the coralfcaiton that many Shobu experience in the last years of their lives, when their bodies begin to transition into a micro-habitat for sea life, and thus take on the spongy consistency of coral. Post-death, they bleach entirely, and harden into a stone-like consistency.
Architecture
All structures in Blackheart are made out of a living black stone-like substance that sprouts from the disk upon which the city resides. The stone forms tower like spines that stretch upward, with its greatest even piercing the surface of the island. The stone is surprisingly soft and moldable, allowing for easy carving and reshaping to the needs of the denizens of Blackheart.
The Esoteric Order of Daegon claims that the black spires of Blackheart originate from the back of their god, Deagon, and are the Dragon's way of sheltering and protecting their chosen people.
"Our future is certain." "The Dragon provides." "Our path stretches before us." "The Dragon provides." "Here our call, oh Ancient One." "The Dragon provides." "And let the heretics drown in their ignorance, just as the world will drown in a thousand thousand tears!" "The Dragon provides."
