Paradise
Paradise is a land of extreme disparity, between the grassland and marshland that makes up its surface, and the interconnected towers that dominate its skyline. Ruled over by The Crown of Paradise, an aristocracy, the common folk live simple lives on the ground level as farmers, servants, laborers, and soldiers, guided by the Onenites who act as their shepherds. The nobles, however, live in their towers, rarely descending down to the surface of the island, preferring to spend their time captivated by courtly drama, growing their wealth, or otherwise relaxing in their luxurious chambers. The surfs, the common folk, have no rights under the Queens's law, and are expected to conduct their own justice and affairs in accordance with the morality of the Church. Nobles, and military officials, enjoy a number of rights which protect them under the law, particularly from the serfs.
The towers in which the nobles live are connected by a series of highway bridges that span the entirety of the island. Entire towns are build along these elevated roads, mainly dedicated to providing goods and services for the noble class.
Sky Ships dock at the top of specific towers around the edge of the island and at the islands core. Foreign ships are only allowed to dock when sponsored by a noble family, who takes on the repercussions of any actions their guest take while on the island. Unaccompanied foreigners are immediately considered spies of the Kingdom's enemies and are summarily captured, tortured, and if deemed necessary, executed via hanging.
The largest tower on the island is the royal tower in which the monarch of Paradise, Queen Key Jin and her family resides, along with the leaders of the paradise military, the highest members of the Onenites church, battalions of soldiers, and an army of servants.
Geography
The island of Paradise is characterized by wide and fertile grasslands and dense murky marshes. The land is perfect for farming, often producing a surplus of food that the island sells off on the open market or uses to feed colonies.
Ecosystem Cycles
Paradise experiences relatively mild weather with semi-frequent rains that doesn't change dramatically for three seasons out of the four. In Terminus, there is a dramatic drop in temperatures that ends towards the last week of the month, although it can stick around until the beginning of the next month.
This predictable weather cycle allows the serfs to grow food regularly and reliably for a majority of the year.
Natural Resources
Paradise is a breadbasket island, producing a variety of vegetables and fruits. The serfs retain the Greenborn predisposition for industrious and flexible farming techniques, and even without the aid of nature magic, are able to produce a surplus of crops that allows them to feed not only the island but also the various colonies under The Crown's control. However, as they do not rely on nature magic to stimulate growth, occasional years with failed crops do cause mild famines and food scarcity.
History
Paradise was founded in 200 TFA by a group of Greenborn who broke off from Plenty for ideological and spiritual reasons. These vague anxieties eventually coalesced into the power structure of modern Paradise, as the early leaders of the movement way from Paradise's more passive style of governance and towards the The Crown of Paradise and the foundation of the Onenite faith.
Traditionally, religion has acted as the opiate of the masses on Paradise, as the church is used to justify the currently established hierarchy while simultaneously excusing the moral transgressions of the ruling class.
After 200 years of social development, two distinct classes arose, serfs and nobles as power stratified and the people gradually lost the ability to hold their leaders to account. The serfs are made up of a number of classes, elements of which perpetuate the oppression of the lower classes by serving the interests of the nobility, but on the whole, still hold more in common with other Greenborn cultures. The aristocracy however has changed dramatically, culturally speaking. The social pressures placed on them have caused them to metastasize into a feudal aristocracy, disconnected from the people that they rule over and obsessed with power, wealth, and courtly intrigue. However, both the upper and lower classes maintain the Greenborn tradition of strict vegetarianism.
