Cait Sidhe
"Aye, dem Cait Sidhe... be more catty than a cat and more fey than fey, best watch ye"
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Cait Sidhe is a type of Fey that resembles an oversized cat and is typically all black with the exception of a white spot on its chest; though there are variants that are white with orange spots, white with black spots, or entirely black without any other coloration. It is described as being as large as a dog and chooses to display itself with its back arched and bristles erect.
Genetics and Reproduction
Believed to reproduce in a similar manner as normal Cats, except being they are magical and can talk... and fly.
Growth Rate & Stages
Similar life cycle to that of nonmagical cats, however it is believed that they live "Nine Lives" and can theoretically outlive any Elf. In fact, some Cait Sidhe have claimed to seen the Alfheim Empire at its height and were in its halls when it fell to the Kingdom of Man.
Ecology and Habitats
Within the ecosystems, both Freelands and Feywild, they prey upon smaller creatures and fit into it not unlike House Cats or smaller wild cats such as Bobcats and the like.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Believed to be carnivorous and predatory in nature, preying upon small beasts and even smaller Fey.
Biological Cycle
Believed to be as long lived as most other Fey, and spent 90% of their time either lounging or finding some poor victim to harass.
Behaviour
They are generally considered untrustworthy even by other Fey. Some people believe that it could steal a person's soul, before it was claimed by the gods, by passing over a corpse before burial; therefore, watches were performed night and day to keep the Cait Sidhe away from a corpse before burial. Others believed it to appear and grant any wish to those who took part in a special summoning ceremony, one that required practitioners to burn the bodies of cats over the course of four days and nights. Still others believe it was believed that a Cait Sidhe would bless any house that left a saucer of milk out for it to drink, and that those houses that did not put out a saucer of milk would be cursed into having all of their cows' udders go dry. Finally, some people believe that the Cait Sidhe was a Hag that could transform voluntarily into its cat form and back nine times. If one of these Hags chose to go back into their cat form for the ninth time, they would remain a cat for the rest of their lives. It is believed by some that this is how the idea of a cat having nine lives originated. Regardless of which legend you believe, they are minor but chaotic Fey best left unoffended.
