The Lost Oasis

The Lost Oasis is a collection of small villages and a central town that can be found in the badlands.   The Spiritual Travelers first happened upon this area after exiting The Rotting Gate through a rather unconventional, though necessary, method on Daulok 22, 308.   Somewhere near The Lost Oasis is a recurring phenomenon described as The Light or The Great Mystery. It is the goal of those that worship this Light to understand it, learn what it is and truly be able to define it beyond just assumptions or guesses.

Demographics

The Lost Oasis is home to a variety of inhabitants including Beetlefolk, sentient spiders, lizardfolk, friendly spirits and even the occasional tourist. Beetlefolk are a vast majority in the Central Town, but this is allegedly due to them being the original settlers and builders of the Lost Oasis. All folks are welcome, of course, and the town has slowly expanded into the tunnels and pits that dot the landscape nearby.

Government

The Lost Oasis is ruled by Ohrsecte, The Beetle King. Beyond this, their government is still unknown.

Industry & Trade

Trade routes are maintained between the satalite villages and the central town with various gardens and farms providing enough food to keep most of the settlement happy. Additional provisions and valuables are obtained from the The Citizens of Greed and other travelers that pass through. A tunnel leading directly to The Endless City of Greed can be found in the main town's pit, and it is recognizeable thanks to the countless precious materials that are seen lining it. These materials (gemstones, metals and so forth) are considered property of Greed, and collecting them comes with considerable risk.

Districts

The Lost Oasis is made up of a central town where it was originally founded, tunnels and satalite villages. The central town and the satalite villages are all found at the bottoms of several pits with steep sides and are connected by a network of tunnels.   The Central Town is composed of residential buildings, government offices, law enforcement, a military base, and a main street with a variety of businesses. The Tunnels are mostly empty, but there are some alcoves with smaller homes, gardens or shops. The Satalite Villages are mostly residential, but there is still the occasional business, though these businesses are often found within homes or attached to them.

Assets

The Lost Oasis is home to a plethora of different shops and businesses. Here are a few examples:   Drimmy-drimm's Drimmarshaws - Nobody really knows who Drimmy-drimm is (was?) or what a Drimmarshaw is, but it's one of the best hat stores in the Spirit World so most assume it has something to do with head-garb. Other items at this shop include scarves, earings, teeth, skulls and wigs!   The current proprietor is an orange ladybird beetlefolk named John.
Instruments by Ilmdreg - A music shop with lots of different musical instruments. Ilmdreg seems to have a bit of a fascination with unusual musical instruments like melodicas, serpents, a glass armonica, lamellophones and, if you have some mechanical capabilities, you could even repair her damaged stylophone. Aside from these oddities, she has more traditional items available like pianos, guitars, harps and the like.   Ilmdreg is a Ghost Tiger Beetlefolk.
Jeremiah's Restorations - A sort of antique store started by one of Jeremiah's ancestors. The family has been digging through the badlands for generations, refurbishing what they find, and then selling it. Most often it is purchased by the Citizens of Greed, but sometimes they make a sale to a local or some other traveler.   Jeremiah is a Stenocara Beetlefolk.
Geraldine's Groceries - A grocery shop with all sorts of desert produce, dairy, eggs, meat and some other harvested unpleasantness. Geraldine is a Stenocara gracilipes Beetlefolk.
The Innebriated Innsect - An inn and saloon combination that features rowdy clientele and a variety of music. Bar fights are common between locals and visitors, visitors and travelers, outlaws and in-laws, locals and locals, and whoever else happens to be drunk enough to throw a punch. It's not always so hectic, there is the occasional night where folks just get along or don't show up.   There's a bartender named Lewis, he's a Figeater Beetlefolk and a bit nervous. He has a variety of tiger beetle employees to help with the stressful shifts.
The Other Place - The only real competition for The Innebriated Innsect, The Other Place is an inn and a slightly more elegant bar. Folks are both less often to be fighting here and less often to be here. They have a wider selection of booze but far fewer guests...perhaps folks here just thrive on excitement. Live entertainment is a nightly occurrence.   The bartender and owner of The Other Place is a Ladybird beetle by the name of Horblegab. He has a brother named John that helps on busier nights. They're both Stenocara Beetlefolk.

Points of interest

The Church of Light
The church had stained glass windows arranged so that there was a central window behind the preacher. This central window depicted the sun. On the walls on either side were more stained glass windows. Closest to the sun were a pair of moons mirroring each other, then, next to the moons, were a pair of stars. Closest to the entrance were a pair of orbs with intricate, swirling and looping designs inside them. These orbs were emitting an intense light, lightning was arcing around them, and they were strangely hard to look at despite just being glass.   It wasn't an incredibly wealthy establishment aside from the stained glass, it seemed like any other sand-damaged building in town. No massive gold statues or any statues at all really. Very simple, mostly just a meeting place for people to pray or learn of The Light.   The priest of this church was a brown/black/white tiger beetle with a similar half-cape as the King though without the accompanying sash or waste covering. He had a big churchy mitre and carried an intricate staff.
The King's Estate
The King's Estate is situated within the most oasis part of the oasis. Very luxurious, least amount of sand damage out of anything in town. It has a lovely foyer with different desert plants decorating the walls, floor and hanging from the ceiling. A water fountain runs along the walls as well, dripping from some unseen mechanism within the ceiling.   Beyond the foyer is a lounge with several couches and chairs. It appears to be a place the king prefers to meet people, especially large groups, and it has a distinct lack of any throne. Instead, he was first seen seated on a still rather luxurious leather arm chair, smoking a pipe and enjoying some light reading when the Spiritual Travelers entered. He wasn't afraid, standing as close as any commoner might, and there was a lack of guards. The only other person within earshot was a butler which had greeted the Spiritual Travelers upon their arrival.

Architecture

Most of the buildings in the Lost Oasis are made of sandworn wood, sandstone bricks or both. Cloth banners, awnings and other such decorative things have also worn down and are full of holes from sandstorms or just children absentmindedly chewing on them. It is reminiscent of an old western.
