The Infernal Wars of Torgvald

The feudal military forces of the planet of Torgvald were supplemented by over a dozen full regiments of Imperial Guard, tasked with defending a pilgrimmage of Mechanicus techpriests as they catalyzed an artificial industrial revolution. In the span of weeks, Imperial forces facilitated the widespread construction of war factories and refineries, followed by the mass production of weapons, armor, and supplies needed to modernize the army. Trained by the Imperial Guard regiments, the feudal military was able to effectively fight back against the Forces of Chaos and retake most of the planet.   The Infernal Wars of Torgvald have raged for decades, and though humanity has gained the upper hand through Imperial support, infighting between the Red Insurgency and nobility has presented the forces of Chaos with an opportunity to turn the tide of the war.

The Conflict

Battlefield

The planet of Torgvald

Outcome

With the Wastelanders pushed into the far North, the majority of the planet has been secured. Between the Wasteland and the Mainland, trenches and fortifications span for miles in all directions, neither side able to make meaningful progress into enemy lines without paying for every inch in blood.

Aftermath

Without the unifying daemonic threat, unrest between the peasantry and nobles threatens to plunge the planet into all-out civil war. Should the planet fall to infighting, the Forces of Chaos will be able to take full control of the planet with ease.

Historical Significance

TORGVALD - “Blessed” With Contact Climate: Temperate, Tundra Terrain: Ocean, Mountains, Forests Population: Moderate The feudal worlds that exist throughout the Imperium are more or less kept in stasis. Typically, the population of these planets exist at a technological level far regressed from the greater Imperium. Planetary Governors are often stationed in orbit with strict orders or non-interference until the planet is deemed “ready” to join the rest of Mankind on a galactic level. Torgvald, however, proved an exception by way of circumstance. Shortly after developing gunpowder weaponry, the planet’s incubation was cut short by a Chaos incursion, belched forth from the death throes of the withering warp storms. The planet’s primitive defenses were quickly overwhelmed by doomsday cults and massacred by daemons. Rather than lose Torgvald’s resources to the perils of the warp, the Planetary Governor interceded-- contact was established for the first time between the feudal lords and the greater Imperium. Farms became factories, castles became bunkers, and knights brandished chainswords alongside peasant las-gunlines. After decades of bitter fighting, the incursion was all but pushed back. At last, the daemonic threat wanes, but tensions rise as the old order is challenged by the new. Reports abound of knight houses extinguished in a volley of las-fire as lords struggle to maintain order in their lands. The balance of power is shifting drastically. Nobility cries out desperately for Imperial intervention, but as the old peasantry captures more and more of the world’s industrial centers, the Planetary Governor struggles to keep the tithes paid and plays both sides of the conflict to ensure compliance. Meanwhile, remnants of the forces of Chaos seek to take advantage of the infighting and spread their vile taint under the guise of peasant revolts and insurrections. The Planetary Governor has issued an open plea for aid from the High Lords of Festris and local mercenary fleets alike, all while the stage is set for a bloodbath that could prove even more deadly than the apocalyptic wars of decades past.
