The So Family
Dulid So is the most powerful criminal organization on Ranul.
Structure
The crime network is lead by the head of the So family, a position that has been passed on to the eldest child ever since the original founder died. Currently, this position is held by So-Girun, together with his wife So-Tike.
Different branches of the organization are managed by the children and other close relatives of the family head. These branches include:
- Drug Branch (Fimerip Tabasa): controlling the production and sales of illegal substances such as Rosintit Lu Zangi. Currently controlled by So-Meni.
- Weapon Branch (Fimerip Nok): stealing weapon research data and prototypes from Securer Force laboratories, recreating the technology in question and selling it to the highest bidder. Currently controlled by So-Tara.
- Information Technology Branch (Fimerip Mapsetu): cyber-crime such as identity theft and database manipulation. Currently controlled by So-Lidu.
Culture
The motto of Dulid So translates as "They all see, but cannot touch." They take a certain pride in the fact that the true source of their wealth is an open secret, but one nebulous enough to not get them convicted.
Politically, they are of a utilitarian mindset. The So do not bother with cultural identities but rather focus on accumulating power and money.
Public Agenda
On the surface, the So family runs numerous smaller but successful businesses. These include restaurants, entertainment stations or grocery stores.
They do not display any particular agenda apart from being productive members of society.
Assets
The So family is incredibly wealthy, which enables them to recruit the best people for any task at hand. It is said that they have many lawyers, judges and politicians under control, either through kinship or bribery. Some rumors even claim that they had spies within the Securer Force.
Actual dirty work is left to third parties, who are managed through long, obfuscated chains of command. Whenever the Securer Force manages to trace communication back to a member of the So family, the latter blame everything on the weakest link in that command chain, presenting the whole affair as the actions of some rogue employee.
