Ambrosia

Ambrosia, often referred to as the Jewel of Indulgence, is the capital of the Dominion of Indulgence, and of all the cities of the dominions, Ambrosia is the largest, most powerful, and the most densely populated. It is often considered to be the capital of Demon-kind as a whole.   Here, the efforts of all three dominions merge together in magnificent collaboration. The water and airborne ships of Torment serve as grand trading vessels, importing and exporting goods to and from the rest of the wider world. The supreme Magical knowledge of Doubt serves Ambrosia in all aspects of society; rapidly aging fine wines with arcane time manipulation, keeping the magically crystal-lit streets clean with enchanted brooms, and an automated hydromantic canal system to bring fresh water to the city from the sea. Indulgence brings its own knowledge to the city, too. The expansive farmlands of the Dusken Rosefields and the waters of the verdant Father's Ocean bring in an abundance of fresh and exotic produce. Nowhere else in the world will you find local delicacies such as Tarratonan Bass or Fireholm Brew. r People from all walks of life from around Ragnarok who seek fame and fortune all end up in Ambrosia at some point or another, for it is said that to seek fame in Ambrosia is to ‘Grasp the Jewel’. Though not all find success. In Ambrosia, the standard of living is incredibly high, and most individuals who live inside of the city’s walls find at least a comfortable living, compounded by the leisures offered by magical conveniences and the widespread enchanting industry.

Many remark on the unique characteristics and beauty of Indulgence's architecture, with Ambrosia often described as the centerpiece of this artistry. The city’s horizon is dominated by tall towers and spires of gold, pointed onion domes. The streets are often paved with marble of royal red, rich gold, and vibrant cyan. The city also prides itself on displays of green. One would be hard-pressed to find an abode or building which does not use some sort of ivy or beautifully ornate hedgerows or floating fountains of exotic bushes and plants. The city is divided into many districts which serve different functions and host a number of attractions, businesses, and establishments.

The Casmaar District

The Casmaar District is the open marketplace district and massive bazaar that dominates north-central Ambrosia, named for the legendary silk-maker of old who helped fund Ambrosia’s construction. Within the tents, carts, warehouses, and shops that stretch for miles of intertwining roads, nearly everything and anything you seek can be purchased. The Casmaar District is ever a whirlwind of commerce and excess, vigilantly patrolled by the Rosewarden city guard. Its most renowned establishments include the famed Museum of Arcane Arts, the Azure Menagerie, where exotic creatures roam on full display, and the vast library of mystical tomes rich with knowledge known as the Dusken Archives.

The Rose Ward

Vainly named by Jesma Al'ella after herself, the Rose Ward is host to the most luxurious inns and pleasure houses in all of Ragnarok. Only the wealthiest have the means to enjoy all that the district has to offer.   Its most notorious attractions are the Summer Rose, where one night’s stay within this high-class establishment would cost the everyman a years’ wages, and the Red Chateau, where the most exotic of pleasures only found in dreams are brought to life.   Both have been used as a means to soften diplomacy and to assassinate political rivals while guards are lowered, but they are most famous for their grand array of companions of all races and persuasions to soothe and comfort. While the ward is open to all travelers, coin is the only language its inhabitants understand. The rest is only silence to be ignored and turned away.

The Silk-yards

The Silkyards encompass the massive inlet and series of docks on the eastern side of the city that allows for a vibrant flow of shipments in and out of the city. Over a hundred ships fill this port at any given time, and the dock crews are ever working, carrying crates and goods to and from the Casmaar District, or to empty vessels for exportation.
The northern sector of the port is mostly allocated to the Castors, a powerful fisherman’s guild that frequently feuds with the shipping guild, the Purple Glades, regarding dock space and taxing its use. These feuds have never come to blows, but the Castors have begun making secret alliances with Ambrosia’s vast criminal underground.   Also based in the north end of the Silk-yards is the Embassy to the Dominion of Doubt, where frequent meetings are held on foreign policy between Ambrosia and Savant's Prospect.

The Tannash Quarter

The Tannash Quarter stands as the height of luxury and the throne of the social elite. Here sit the mansions of the many lords and ladies of the city, located in a district next to the Maroon Palace. The Tannash Quarter is where the most successful trade and land barons reside, experiencing an opulent lifestyle that most others on the continent of Ragnarok could only dream of.   Lofty estates, green gardens, and golden riches are fenced off to the lower classes, and many are critical of the hoarding of wealth that goes on within the heavily guarded walls of this district. Very few are allowed to enter, and the lower classes that are allowed in are watched with a close eye by the elite Rosewarden guard.

The Townsteads

Townsteads are the largest residential district within Ambrosia’s walls, housing most of the city’s merchant class, including traveling traders, ship captains, and guild apprentices. The district is a patchwork of thousands of personal homes, tenements, and guildhalls of all shapes and sizes, peppered with small taverns and inns on nearly every street corner. These neighborhoods lay clustered together among tightly set streets, occasionally broken up by
park grasses or the Father’s Waterways that snake through the city.   Visitors to the Townsteads are advised not to go out at night; crime is not uncommon here due to the disparity of wealth from home to home, and the Rosewardens seem reluctant to find a constructive solution. Residents who know the lay of the land have an easier time at night and can help visitors avoid the most dangerous streets.

The Valendar District

Home to the average resident of Ambrosia, the Valendar district is the heart of the capital and its leisure center, where many come to visit the city’s most famous landmark: the Father’s Garden, a grand central pavilion housing some of the most exotic flora from around the world, and host to a great number of celebrations and events. Other attractions include the Golden Galleries where masterpieces of art from generations past are preserved for the future.   The district's main hub of activity is the bustling chaos of the Tri-markets, a massive plaza shaped like a triangle where thousands move in and out daily to buy or trade goods. Ripe with skilled workers, many live and work in the same abodes. Businesses and merchant empires rise and fall, encouraging competition. This in turn brings an element of crime against rising establishments, even the occasional bout of sabotage.   While most have little to worry about with the constant presence of the Rosewardens, the nights can be dangerous if alone and carrying valuables. Despite this, the happiest people live in the Valendar district, where the simplicity of life meets comfort and abundance.
