Krothsbight was once a mighty military fort, built long ago by the
Steel Legion of the
Dominion of Torment as a means to establish a foothold against the rampant piracy scourging
Quillbrand at the time. Today, it defends Ragnarok's southern coast against any threats seeking to enter its territory. Sat atop a large motte, Krothbight's highest observation tower, 'The Pinnacle of Kroth', offers an excellent and clear view of both sea and land for hundreds of miles on clear days.
History and Tourism
Krothbight is still officially a military outpost under the Steel Legion's control, but in the years following Torment's guerilla campaign against piracy, it has opened its gates to residents of the Dominion of Indulgence, and a small, bustling township emerged around the old fortress over time. Though the fort itself has been restored and reinforced, some old damaged walls and defunct weapons have been kept as a reminder of dark days past, and access to The Pinnacle was permitted by the fort's Primus once a catwalk had been built for visitors.
The Gates to the Father
As a military base, Krothsbight grants multiple benefits to local Torment forces. It is an excellent observation point for both sea and land and serves as the first layer of defense from the south. Krothsbight houses a small fleet of ships that regularly patrol
Ragnarok's southern coasts, from the isles between Stillbrand Anchorage and Krothsbight, to as far east as the Emerald River. It also serves as a warfare school for many of
Ambrosia's guard captains and a select few influential individuals.
While but a mere shadow of
Kroth, it is the largest military settlement in the
Dominion of Indulgence. Despite its relatively small but elite force of both soldiers and naval vessels, Krothsbight is often referred to as the gatekeeper of the
Father's Ocean. Their presence during patrols and displays of force have kept piracy and crime along the coast low, and trading ships seeking access to Ambrosia are rarely harried.
Since Krothbight is under Torment's jurisdiction, it has served as a necessary buffer in resolving conflicts between the Dominion of Indulgence and the
Dominion of Doubt. Acting as a peacekeeper, Krothsbight enforces the laws and claims of either Dominions until a dispute is resolved. If a dispute cannot be resolved, the Primus of Krothsbight has the authority to do whatever is necessary to prevent an escalation between the Dominions.
