Kinston
Kinston began its life as a small farming village that soon sprouted a bustling hub of trade during the resettling of Meyland after the War of Broken Chains. Famed for its fertile lands, Kinston is home to a great many bakers, butchers, blacksmiths, and very many other tradesmen that rival even the crafting skills of Mountainholme.
Surrounded by fertile fields of rich wheats, barleys, grains, and other seasonal produce, Kinston is one of Meyland's breadbaskets, second only to Dunmeril.
The city is a collection of winding, cobblestone lanes along the banks of the northern oceans. Cottages and homes with extensive gardens in the back mix randomly with smiths and other businesses, which usually have the family quarters above them. Residences are charmingly built around twisted birch and oak trees and greenery is a frequent accent to most constructions.
Kinston is home to the largest population of Halflings across all of Meyland. Halflings love bright colors, so the buildings are often garishly decorated in colors that make visitors wonder about their hosts’ eyesights. Most buildings are scaled to a Halfling’s build too, although inns have special rooms constructed for larger folk.
Kinston is also the capital of the Kinston Council's domain of influence across Meyland, which includes Dunmeril. It is the center of government where the Council meets once every three to four years. Open to all Halflings whether they live in their jurisdiction or elsewhere, the Council meets to decide questions of policy for the province, pass what few laws are needed, choose the Thain for the next three years, and have a grand time while seeing old friends and swapping hard cider recipes.
The current Thain of the Kinston Council is Matron Brayla Dale.
