Session 17: Let's Eat Pies!
General Summary
The orcs of the Cliff of Eyes had been defeated and our heroes were confronted with about twenty orc women and children left in the cave complex. What to do? With stern words from Brimble Knackles , the party left the orcs unharmed, telling the creatures not to follow them on their way to “Thornward”. The heroes enjoyed an uneventful day-and-a-half walk back to Steigs, on the way revisiting the evil book they had buried outside the village. It remained unmolested in a shallow hole and wrapped in lead.
Upon reaching Steigs the party found that the Pie Contest was in full-swing. Tables were set up outside Steigs Rest with a makeshift bar staffed by Marcus Wrathbone .
It was soon obvious howevrer that something was not right -- several pie patrons were writhing on the ground in pools of vomit, or worse. Without warning, four large pools of vomit and other fluids cogealed and rose up into slimy creatures and attacked. These Vomit Spawns proved tough, their bludgeoning strikes and stench killing several villages, wouding party members and Marcus Wrathbone. After the oozes were dispatched a wounder villager, Leroy Crabclaw, was aided by the party and at Myrdian Oakarm’s urging he was taken back to the temple of Fharlanghn. Myrdian suspected a demon’s work and attempted an exorcism on Leroy. While the heroes watched, a giant maggot lurched from Leroy’s stretched mouth and attacked within the temple. The disgusting symbiot was sliced apart by the heroes within the holy temple and within moments Myrdian was at Leroy’s side trying to divine any information the poor wretch might have. Leroy’s hazy memory suggested his recent interactions with Carla Ruttenberry might have been the cause of his sickness. For his part, Myrdian was sure a demon was involved. The heroes decided to go to Carla’s cabin and found it abandoned, only her dog Nala was home and seemed like he had been there for a week or more. The heroes remembered that Carla’s lover was Belfur, who had a cottage out ot town…
