The Frigid Morass

The Frigid Morass is a mysterious arctic swamp located to the west of the Famrial Tips and the Ruins of Whiteridge. It is the home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, and the Kirin Kitor Elves. On its western border lies The Mirrored Reservoir, a large lake that house three small human communities

Geography

The Frigid Morass is primarily comprised of boreal wetlands and is one of the lowest points in the region. Every summer the melting snow causes the water level to rise multiple feet, which then freezes and subsides during the winter. During the freeze a thick layer of ice builds up on the top, and as the water subsides it creates a hovering sheet held up only by trees and frozen vegetation. Where the flora is thinnest it breaks into large chunks and creates a region of dangerous icy spikes. In the areas with dense vegetation, this hovering sheet of ice creates an insulated barrier that allows the water below to stay warm and not freeze. As such many species of fish and other wildlife have managed to thrive here despite the harsh environment.

The wetlands lie at the base of the Famrial Tips, a series of mountains to the east. From there the boreal forest quickly turns into a watery swamp and solid ground becomes more scarce as it approaches the interior. On the swamps northern borders the trees and vegetation are the thinnest, with large patches of ground and pools of water eventually giving way to the large fields of the Sunrise Path. There is a rather definitive edge on the northern boarder, where the ground rises enough that the waters thin out and the forest gives way to the open landscape.

To the east lies the swamp gives way to forest with a few streams cutting through to the Mirrored Reservoir. A couple human villages call this area home, where they are free from the danger of the swamps inhabitants and rising waters. The southern border becomes more dry the further from the interior you get, before giving way to large swathes of forest. At the forests edge lies the Snowdrift Flatlands, an enormous value that spans from the Dragons Teeth Mountains all the way to the Arctic Run
