The Red Tankard

Even from beyond the city limits, you can see this large oaken building with small stone columns rising into the air. It's located near the secondary wooden palisade of this town, and its windows are bright with light even as the sun sets.   A small red wood fence surrounds this building and the small stable. A wrought-iron sign hanging above the door shows an overflowing mug, which looks crimson from the rust across the surface. Candlelight flickers invitingly in the horn windows around the bottom level of the structure.   Inside, the main room is filled with people from all over town. Dirt-covered farmers and muscled smiths and richly-dressed shopkeepers all crowd into the place as a small selection of servers desperately try to keep up. The tables here are scarred from long use, and there are travellers all over the place playing games and having conversation.

Purpose / Function

This building is the main inn in the town, and so it attracts a huge number of pilgrims heading to the capital and travellers heading all over The Gratic Empire. Rooms here are surprisingly cheap given its popularity, but food can get rather expensive in comparison. Many people come here for a good drink after working hard all day, and the place is commonly full by sundown.

Prices

  • a room here runs 6 sp per night and can contain two people.
  • the food here is rather expensive, costing anywhere from 2sp to 1gp depending on complexity of food and number of courses.
  • drinks here can range from cheap local beer to small glasses of local wine and cost between 3cp and 1sp.
  • Alterations

The wrought iron sign has been replaced a grand total of twenty times, as the local blacksmith that makes them tends to use scrap and poor-quality iron. The wooden fence was recently repainted to match the city walls as a gimmick, and the horn windows of the building are another recent replacement.

    Architecture

The building has a total of four levels, each containing about fifteen of the same size rooms; each room fits only one person and contains a single bed, a small table, and a wooden chair. Horn is the main material used for the windows, giving all light that comes in a slight yellowish-orange tinge.

    History

This inn is one of the oldest buildings in town, with only the Magistrate's house and the ornate wells of the city being older.
