Sir Bradwen met Lady Rhiannon Ren ferch Hefeydd near Dragon Hill in 485. He was immediately struck by her beauty, and she in turn asked him to marry her to save her from a monstrous man to whom she is betrothed—the wicked sorcerer Lord Gwawl. The wedding was to occur in the spring of 487. However, her former betrothed, Lord Gwawl, came to the wedding and demanded a favor of Sir Bradwen, who granted it, and Lord Gwawl insisted on taking the Lady Rhiannon's hand in marriage, but Bradwen and his friends prevented this in 488, and Bradwen was married to her instead. However, in 497, Gwawl returned and kidnapped Rhiannon. She was his captive for several years in the faerie realm of the Savage Forest, until Sir Bradwen found and rescued her.
