Reginn (ˈreɣenː)
(a.k.a. Gorynych)
In the land of Eyju, the people revere and respect the powerful Vættir, spirits that guard over the land and sea. Among these great guardians is Reginn, a magnificent wyrm that protects the north quarter of the island. Reginn is known as the guardian of the fire during the cold and dark winter, and his power is believed to keep the people of Eyju safe from harm.
Reginn is a creature of immense spiritual power, and he is closely tied to the essence of the land he protects. He is a being of fire and heat, and his presence is felt most strongly during the long, cold winter months when the Eyjamaður face the harshest weather. Reginn is believed to dwell in the heart of the great mountain Reginnsfjall in the north, where he sleeps during the warm months and awakens when the winter draws near.
During the winter, Reginn's power is at its peak. He is said to control the very flames that keep the Eyjamaður warm and safe, and his breath is believed to be the source of the heat that sustains life on the island. Reginn's power is not limited to the physical realm, however. He is also a being of The Dream realm, and his influence can be felt in the thoughts and ideas of the people of Eyju.
The Eyjamaður celebrate Reginn's power and presence during the winter with great festivals and rituals. They build great bonfires in his honor, and they offer him gifts and sacrifices to show their respect and gratitude. It is believed that if Reginn is pleased with the offerings, he will bless the people with good fortune and prosperity in the coming year. His worship is strongest in the north, at the town of Eldshamrar, where the Drekkamen are based.
Despite his great power and influence, Reginn is not a being to be trifled with. He is a fierce and proud creature, and he will not suffer those who disrespect him or his power. Legends tell of those who dared to challenge Reginn or to question his authority, only to meet with fiery retribution. The Eyjamaður know that it is best to honor and respect Reginn, for his power is vital to their survival during the harsh winter months.
He is also known as Gorynych among the Tugarin of Buyan who worshipped him when they lived on Eyju long ago.
