The Blue Crane is an opera house and centre of culture in
Fenellore, at which the
The Mesmere Troupe has frequently performed between the years 1362-1366 AE.
Operations
The opera house, owned by
Queen Euphemesta Vedamore, is managed by
Lord Walter Fleer, who employs a team of house staff to manage theatre operations and ticket sales. The Blue Crane employs already established theatre troupes with their own repertoires to take residence at the theatre, on the condition that they perform a minimum of nights of a performance every three months. Lord Fleer has the ability to approve of any show, and supply small grants, but ultimately has little direct involvement in the performances.
Description
The Blue Crane is one of the most ornately designed buildings in Fenellore, constructed in pale stone and adorned in intricate filagree, cupola rooftops, and green-tinted windowpanes. A grand bronze gate with metalwork symbols of Vlune of the Show marks the entranceway, above which is a three-metre tall stone sculpture of the muse of theatre. In her left hand, she holds a working clock with a jade face, while her right hand props up the opera house's balcony, or 'perch'. It is customary that before the doors open, a singer will perform with minimal (if any) orchestration, to beckon people to the show.
The Blue Crane is located across the road from a temple of
Lukonna of the Lovers.
The nest
The nest is an annex squished behind the theatre, and provides a currently performing acting troupe with a complimentary residence. It has its own kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and handful of other areas. While the Mesmere Troupe are in residence,
Orera the Songbird and
Maestro Flugel have their own respective bedrooms, both of which are cramped, with just enough room for a bed and a chest of drawers. Most of Mesmere's band share a slightly larger room, although for the most part, the other members have constructed hammocks and cots in other areas of the nest —or, even, parts of the opera house that aren't intended for private use. All rooms are cramped, and full of instruments, parts of sets, and props.
History
The Blue Crane opera house was constructed in 1318, commissioned by
Halberd Vedemore, the former King of Fenellore. Upon its completed construction, a voluntary raffle was held amongst the Fenellore nobility to decide which house would administer the theatre in the King's honour. The Hortense Family was initially drawn, although after only a month, they passed the right unto the Fleer Family, preferring to focus on their estate's renovations.
