General Summary

Scoring the 1st Competition

  • The Youngling Adventurers teachers met the kids at the broken fountain in Scholar's Forum, their usual spot. The teachers had 3 piles of rolled up cloaks. Five were yellow, five were brown and five green.
  • Team Treasure Hunters led by Lucia scored 12 points and received 3rd place.
  • They confirmed that the old library, Illimine Aufklarung burned down during the night of the proclamation.
  • They revealed that an angry dwarf tumbler hasn't earned any Blessings in ages. Some of the kids knew nothing about money or hard currency.
  • Jing Fortuyn scored 8 of the team's 12 points by hiding her token and finding (but not securing) the other teams' tokens.
  • Team Shifter's Heirs led by Regina Congers scored 14 points and earned 2nd place.
  • Ermy tried to trade his token for sweetcakes because he thought it was a Blessing. Instead, he ate it and got sick to his stomach.
  • They revealed that a halfling protester named Jillian Keegan was anti-establishment and saying rude things about The Queen Mother.
  • They found (and got to keep) a magical whispering knife
  • They revealed that two "demon worshipers" were executed on the same night the library burned down, on the Night of Proclamation.
  • Team New Horizons led by Red scored 17 points for 1st place.
  • Quinn hid his token at the docks but Jing found it.
  • Quinn didn't find another token but tracked team Shifter's Heirs the whole time.
  • They revealed that the halfling grocer, Dinara Keegan was nervous and didn't want to talk about his family. He is also interested in hiring local kids, even though there is an abundance of fieldhands available, supplied by the Queen Mother.
  • For winning first place, Team New Horizons won a 2 hour head start on the next competition in the series and got to choose their mentor (by choosing the color of cloak). They picked the brown cloaks and was mentored by the dragonborn ex-adventurer / warrior, Kastor Raines.
  • Kastor told them magic was worthless and unatainable, but he'd teach them everything else they'd "need" to know to win.
  • Team Shifter's Heirs chose green and was mentored by tortle herbalist, Tertia Glass. Jing Fortuyn switched sides and joined this team.   Team Treasure Hunters was mentored by half-elf educator, Paige Mirek.

    Family Ties

After the competition, the kids spoke to their family members.   Red learned that his dad's friend, Dinara Keegan and Keegan's family is in trouble. A person used to be able to say their opinions and that be that. Now you get in big trouble if you say the wrong thing. Its a lot of changes recently and the firbolg family is having a hard time adjusting. They are considering moving away to find peace elsewhere.   s'Thom learned that a big construction project is underway to build a new temple to honor the Queen Mother. The site is in the middle of the Temples of Light. Her parents confirmed that two friends were executed and the library burned down all those years ago. Soldiers arrived that day and disappeared that night. They told s'Thom not to worry, as things in nature change all the time.   Berov's parents were hesitant to say much. They asked a lot of questions about what Berov is learning and what he is being asked to do. Magic still exists in the world and can be found. Some man was just trying to sell a bowl that smokes, but Berov's family doesn't have the Blessings to buy it. The man wouldn't trade for anything but healing supplies.   Quinn confirmed that the Conger twins live in Shifters Forest and is watched over by "the creepy guy" from the library. Quinn's grandfather indicated that the creepy guy was soft spoken, wasn't mean tempered and was generous with money when he needed repairs.
