Session 20 - Anunaki
General Summary
After defeating the opposition team in the arena, Red | Firbolg Circle of Spores Druid inspected the dying elf he had found earlier on the top of the arena's hill. The elf had been dead for a long time, mostly consumed by tiny mychonids. Only some essence of his spirit endured, and only long enough to request that Red bring his star chart to the surface world. Red accepted and the elf passed away. S'thom took the elf's Moon Sickle.
Qix Fey-Branche | Archfey Patron summoned everyone to a feast where they all refused to eat a bite or drink a sip.
It was revealed that the meeting was actually planned all along by Lady Antilia | Fiend Patron, who purposefully allowed the heroes and Qix through the gates of Txanponetan so that she could assert some dominance over Qix and gain access to Kylar's Domain | Feydark. Qix assumed that Antilia must be searching for the same thing "others" have been seeking: the cause of the destruction of the githyanki race.
Instead, Lady Antilia searched for a soul that escaped Avernus. Someone had upset the balance of the Blood War between the devils and demons. Per Qix's estimation, the devils had reached too far in trying to exhert control over their enemy much like what they had done in the Arkosian-Turathi Wars.
In an age long past, humans from the failing Empire of Nerath made pacts with fiends, creating the race of tieflings. A new empire grew out of the ashes of Nerath, which the tieflings called Bael Turath. As the Turathi empire grew over the centuries, it eventually clashed with the dragonborn kingdom of Arkosia in the southern half of the continent. Border skirmises led to wars and wars eventually led to the downfall of both civilizations.
And Qix asserted that the devils had pushed too far when they enlisted the angel Zariel in their war against the demons. Upon Zariel's redemption, the balance was upended leading to the "demon queen's" triumph. She claimed that the sky itself was broken, monstrosities were ripping through and this time it would be the downfall of everything. Not just an empire. But everything.
Suddenly Qix was attacked by psionic energy. Intruders entered the dining hall, humanoids with purple skin, bulbous heads and tentacles around their mouths. With one crack of Lady Antilia's whip, the heroes, Uanna Dezirinda | Tiefling Warlock and the bodies of Lia Opher | Dwarf Guard and Kato Concha | Bugbear City Guard were teleported back to the gate-tunnel of Txanponeton.
The guards were suprised to see them and asked how they had snuck past. Gorgoroth Flamesbreath | Dragonborn Psi Warrior, having no memory of the sidetrip to the Feydark or their interactions with Qix, told them the party had just a moment ago paid their 20 Blessings and entered the gate. S'thom, Red and Berov told a different story. The guards threatened to arrest them for questioning until Uanna commanded the guards to let everyone go. She had changed from a homeless waif trying to enter the gates illegally, to the city's High Warlock and now carried the unwritten authority to make decisions on behalf of the city guard.
The party was taken to the nicest inn in town, where they each enjoyed a suite of rooms.
Alone on his balcony, Red held the elf's star chart up to the sky and peered through the pinholes. The stars swam in his eyes and coallesed into the constellation of a humanoid who stood before Red. The man said that he was a watcher in the sky, a guardian who protected the realms from monstrocities beyond comprehension which was locked beyond the stars for eons. The guard heard a call for help from below and had joined a group of adventurers to save a city. In doing so, he learned that he was tricked into abandoning his post and that someone broke the natural order, the spinning of the great wheel of time that locked away the monsters of the Far Realm.
The spirit of the elf sky guardian asked Red to seek out members of the Cerulean Conclave, a group dedicated to watching the skies and assisting however they could from below. He also asked Red to accept a sliver of his soul and the slivers of past hosts' souls, so that the sky guardian could guide him.
When he accepted, Red's mind filled with the memories of thousands of lives. Included among them was Digen, a member of the Heroes of Brindol and the sky guardian Anunakinephalim.
The next morning, Gorgoroth wanted to get a move on and continue to the work camps in the Crvena Vale while Red wanted to do some shopping. They woke Red up and he told them about his midnight encounter.
