A Blacklist agent and servant of Thoth. Rubycante is as dour and cynical as his hometown, with about as many secrets. He's been ordered by Thoth to escort the party back to Amran, which is really getting in the way of the mystery he's trying to solve.
He has been tracking a string of deaths involving other Blacklist Agents. With the party's help, he's uncovered the killer as being fellow Blacklist Agent, Zinnober
He seems to have a lot going on internally, though he's proven surprisingly dedicated to helping the party out, even if he isn't that nice to them. He has an air of quiet desperation and seems particularly prone to melancholy.
Since arriving in Albicant, Ruby has expressed a desire to abandon his life in Bluewater in favour of staying with the team. He serves as the manager of the Plundering Pirates

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Ruby has a form distinctly unsuited for combat. He is wiry, thin and tall, with seemingly no musculature. Despite this, Ruby carries himself well, even confidently when he cares to.

Body Features

As mentioned, Ruby is very tall and thin. He's quite sinewy, with tendons and muscles being a fairly prominent feature, especially on his hands and feet. His skin seems fairly ashy, though whether this is due to ill-health or is an affect of his patron is uncertain. Ruby has broad shoulders compared to his otherwise narrow frame.
Ruby's most striking feature is his red hair, which is seemingly natural, as his eyebrows match.

Facial Features

Inkeeping with the rest of him, Ruby's face is sharp and narrow. This usually serves to magnify his normally dour expressions. Ruby's narrow, heavy-lidded eyes give him a cat-like gaze; sharp and watchful. This tends to make him difficult to read as his expressions are rather reserved. Ruby's high cheekbones and prominent jawline could make him look rather handsome, if he took better care of himself.

Ruby has at least a passing interest in music. He can play piano well enough to have been classes as an Artisan in The Historical Tower and kept an upright piano and a substantial collection of records in his apartment. In keeping with his hometown, he likes Jazz music and used it to explain the concept of improvisation and "lack of rules" to Clip.

History

Ruby and Sebastian clearly have a lot in common, even if they aren't saying as much to each other. Ruby isn't necessarily more open with Sebastian than with the others, but they are quick to pick up on each other's humour.
They clashed when Ruby spoke out against Sebastian's treatment of his sister which caused them not to speak for a while. Ruby later apologised, admitting he didn't have the full grasp of the situation and jumped to conclusions.

It's hard to tell what Ruby and Clip really think about each other. Their bickering is so consistent it's practically a feature of The Gang as a whole. Ruby's secretiveness clashes with Clip's pragmatism in the worst way and two often end up putting each other on the defensive. You could chalk it up to their various personal issues but really, they are just far too similar to make life easy for each other.
In Albicant, they had a breakthrough regarding their miscommunications that, while not revealing much about Ruby's trust issues, did set them on a more empathetic path with each other.

Ruby is fond of Emilius in the broad sense for both his honesty and is (at least on the surface) more optimistic approach to life. He especially enjoys Emilius' cooking.
Ruby felt comfortable enough with Emilius to express his reluctance in returning to Bluewater, something Ruby was not in the habit of doing with any of the party members.
