Structure
Exposition
Characters arrive on planet. The bifrost randomly activates and players either get pulled in or willingly enter. They are immediately met by the Aesir on the other side and captured wheere they meet the other players. Rothar will help them escape and then guide them in winning favor with the Aesir Tribes.
Conflict
The players will have to continually brave a hostile world, while also attempting to win the the Aesir's trust so that they can learn more about their history and hopefully find a way home. Hel, will also take an interest in what lies beyond the Bi Frost, but her motives will be all together different, and therefore, her and the players will be in competition.
Rising Action
The players meet heimdall and are given the 9 trials to retrieve Horfund. should they succeed, they can go home. while the players are on this quest, the initial start village will be razed by Hel and her forces. the players will discover this unintentionally. The players will also discovered the rebirthed Worldsoul of Asgard.
Climax
The climax of the entire campaign unfolds during a battle to retireve Horfund. Either at or after solving the last trial, the players will have to battle Hel and her army to keep Horfund. Should they succeed, the players must now remain in hiding to avoid their deaths before returning home or work to retrieve the sword from Hel.
Falling Action
As a last ditch effort, Hel will raise Jormangandur in order to destroy the Worldsoul and then the Aesir. If she succeeds, the players fail their overarching mission. They must battle Hel to prevent the genocide of the Aesir, and preserve their only way home. Rothar potentially dies during this battle.
Resolution
The players defeat Hel, go home, and everyone lives happily ever after. Unless they failed or whatever. Then I guess there's no happily ever after.
Components
Goals
The player character's primary motivation throughout the campaign will be to reactivate the Bifrost gates so that they can go home. To do so, they must complete Heimdall's 9 Trials, retrieve Horfund, and solve the puzzles pertaining to Ragnorok. Along the way, they will aid the Remnant Aesir in a variety of needs, and discover that the Energy Worldsoul has been reborn and experience the effects that has on Asgard
Hooks
Plot hooks will be dependent upon the factors relating to each PC individually.
Stakes
As a group, the players will be moved to action by the arrival of Hel Altruis II and her forces. The Helhir invloved in this story will be highly xenophobic and do whatever it takes to make sure the Bi-Frost is NOT reactivated and that the Aesir stay dead. Hel will attempt to accomplish this by either retieving Horfund for herself, which will allow the players to go home, but leave the Remnant Aesir to be slaughtered by Hel. if she cannot do this, Hel will raise raise Jormangandur and attempt to destroy the Energy Worldsoul once again, resulting in the PC's not going home, the surviving Helhir conducting a genocidal war against the Aesir, and Asgard never rebuilding.
Moral Quandaries
As the players solve Heimdall's trials, they will uncover the ugly and corrupt history of the Old Aesir. This will lead them to understand and maybe even sympathize with Hel's motives. If the Aesir are allowed to rebuild, who's to say history won't repeat itself? Interestingly, this is Heimdall's primary motive as well, but instead of resorting to genocide, he has created the trials to ensure no one who is unworthy of the responsibility is able to access Horfund. The players will be forced to choose between the two viewpoints, or simply to serve themselves and let the cards fall where they may. Helhir characters will have high motivations to side with Hel, while Aesir characters will have high motivations to side with Heimdall or prefer to leave well enough alone. Along the way, the players will see both the best and the worst in people, especially those closest to them. This will help influence their ultimate decision.
Cruel Tricks
Unfortunately people are people. Even those the players give their trust to will have the capacity to betray them. In addition they may be met with defeat in some of the trials despite doing their best. This could be purposeful structure on the part of Heimdall, treasures within the ruins have deteriorated to the point of being useless, or simply that Hel beat them to the punch.
