Tiree is a fourth-generation descendant of the Anjendan tideriders' speculation fleet thought lost in the ocean's North Gap.  She did not mesh well with the colony's philosophy, and fled as a teenager to live on her own.

Tiree is the only person unaffiliated with the Eddy to own a lightning wheel.  It is of the "dry" type, and presumably originally belonged to Vitat but was lost when he disappeared.  Tiree found it shortly after leaving Vitgrud, worked out how to operate it, and has used it since then as an essential survival tool.

Personal history

Tiree began planning her escape from Vitgrud at a young age.  Although she was trained as a skywatcher, she made sure to learn enough craft and labor skills to make any equipment she needed and know how to use it.  On the last day of her fivespan's Trial of Life, she slipped away from the group to travel up the coast, telling only Gorles where she was going--and that only because he caught her.  During her travels she discovered Ralcondray's small inland sea.  After a year of wandering around the shore, she settled on an offshore island.  By the time Gorles found her eight years later, she had established a comfortable living for herself.  Despite that, she was not upset to hear that the Allied Isles were reaching out to Vitgrud and would be conducting a more thorough exploration of the island.  In light of Ard's refusal to work with the Allied Isles, Tiree has agreed to be Vitgrud's representative instead.

Mental Trauma

When Tiree was eleven years old, her mother died following a miscarriage.  Seeing that, and knowing that her grandmother and great-grandmother both died in childbirth, she has vowed never to risk becoming pregnant.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Within her fivespan, Gorles was Tiree's primary confidant.  Both strongly suspect that Zimmira encouraged that relationship in hopes that Tiree would choose him as marriage partner, which neither particularly wanted.

Family Ties

After her mother's death, Tiree was raised in her father's home, but their relationship is not a cordial one.  They each handled their grief in different and incompatible ways, which contributed to Tiree choosing the solitude of skywatching as a profession.

Interestingly, according to Vitgrud's records, Tiree is a direct maternal descendant of Luraun and therefore, according to tiderider tradition, may be able to claim first rights to the Ralcondray trade on behalf of the Anjendan tideriders.
