Starlight Veritas, 711 DR Vintage
Vintage Overview:
The 711 DR vintage of Starlight Veritas, known as the “Year of the Vengeful Halfling,” was a landmark year for this mythical elven wine. This year was marked by an exceptionally long and mild summer with clear skies, optimal for stargazing and celestial events, which are crucial for the unique magical infusion process used in crafting this wine.
Vineyard and Vinification:
This wine was made from 100% estate Aurelian grapes from a single row in the north block of the Myth Drannor vineyard. The vineyard lies in a secluded vale where the soil is rich in minerals and the ambient magic from the ruins of the ancient city enhances the growth and potency of the vines. The grapes were harvested under the light of a silver moon, ensuring their magical properties were at their peak.
Weather Conditions:
The year 711 DR was characterized by a fortuitous alignment of several celestial bodies, which occurs once every several centuries. This rare event coincided with perfect climatic conditions—mild temperatures and a notable absence of harsh weather events.
Volume and Bottling:
Only a limited quantity of this wine was produced to maintain its rarity and magical integrity—approximately 500 bottles. Each bottle was crafted from crystal that had been sand-etched by master elven artisans and sealed with a cork and wax that had been similarly enchanted to preserve the wine’s qualities.
Tasting Notes:
The 711 DR vintage of Starlight Veritas offers an ethereal pink'ish-golden hue with a shimmering, almost luminous quality. It possesses high intensity aromatics, with layers of moonflower, glimmerberry, candle smoke, petrol and star mint that seem to leap from the glass. The wine's underlying minerality speaks to the enchanted terroir and offers a faint faerie fire and eldritch flint. The bombastic alcohol bill is tempered as if by some arcane effect. The palate is concentrated, savory, and layered, with loads of warm spices. This wine is seamless with with flavors of star mint, dusk pear, and sunspire cherries. But what really sets this wine apart is its broad, satiny texture as it glides through the mouth into a tremendously long finish. There isn't a sharp edge anywhere in sight and the vibrant freshness almost defies reason. This wine will age indefinitely.
Update:
As of 21 Kythorn, 1491 DR, Bruni sold this bottle to a broker from Waterdeep. Thalivar Amsel, the proprietor of Amsel & Vine Trading Company, paid Bruni 3800 GP. Bruni used the funds to buy three interconnected parcels of land in Phandalin.
