The Blacksmoke Mountains - Region Introduction

The dark, volcanic Blacksmoke mountains loom in the distance beyond Castle Vangrim, with smoldering craters spitting the realm’s namesake smoke into the sky. Historians wrote of a time there were multiple active volcanoes in the region, but now whatever magma that remains bubbles deep within the earth. The mountains are seen as inhospitable by most, and gained a dark reputation after the Undying King led his armies through the mountain pass and into the Eastern Midlands long ago– a movement allowed by a major Shadowfell crossing that overlapped with the region. That crossing is now gone, and fey folk tell old tales of treasures hidden deep in the mountains– just the kind of tales to tempt adventurers into the depths of the realm.
