The Triad of Serediza

The desert region of Serediza is the only highly populated realm that does not fall under the rule of Queen Eladal, although their leaders do hold three seats on the High Council of Raen’dor. These leaders (called Speakers) are collectively known as the Triad of Serediza, each elected by popular vote every ten years to represent Serediza’s three major cities.
The ability to use magic has long been understood as a sacred gift by the peoples of Serediza, and this tradition dictates that Speakers elected to the Triad all be spellcasters in some form or fashion; many of them are sorcerers or other mages that come into their talents somewhat naturally, but any citizen who wishes to represent their city may study as a wizard and demonstrate their ability when adding their name to their city’s ballot. Some Speakers serve only one term, while popular speakers have been known to be re-elected several times. Each Speaker is lord of their city for the ten years (or more) that they serve, and those three united govern all of Serediza as the Triad; the Triad in turn holds three seats on the Queen’s council, so that they may represent the interests of their realm in negotiations that could affect Raen’dor as a whole.
