Asmodeus marshalls the devils of the Nine Hells at one last attemp to gain all the souls wandering the afterlife in The Endless Sea. Their forces are met by the gods, and a costly war is fought ending with Asmodeus and his devils driven back to hell empty-handed, and the gods wounded, drained, and weakened. It was then the Divine Compact was written and signes. A pact of non-interference by the gods of the Twelve, the devils of the Nine Hells, and the demons in the Abyss with the Natural World. The gods retreated back to The Divine Isles and The Endless Sea to heal and regain their divine power.
