Red Ruth

Red Ruth was a hag that lived in the Bone Brambles in Avernus. She was killed in 1497 by the Lost Star Detectives at the behest of the hag Mad Maggie.

History

In the mid-15th century CR, a coven of hags containing Red Ruth, Mad Maggie, and Gaunt Gella arrived at Fort Knucklebones desiring to use its Dream Machine. Once the coven were able to get the machine operational, Gella was attached to it and Ruth entered into her dreams. Whatever Ruth saw shocked Ruth, who ripped the machine off herself, murdered Gella, and fled before Maggie could kill her.
Ruth then settled in the Bone Brambles, warping the calcified trees to protect her hut. She also maintained contact with organizations like the Wandering Emporium, which regularly sent Ruth various ingredients and magic items as requested.
In 1497, the Lost Star Detectives arrived in the Bone Brambles seeking to kill Ruth at Maggie's request and to steal her heartstone so they could make use of the Dream Machine themselves. Ruth attempted to defend herself by raising her hut on two bony legs and crushing the attackers, but her hut was defeated and Ruth herself was killed in a horrific manner by Arcus Miursa, who jumped into the crashed hut and attacked Ruth until only a bloody pulp remained.
