Stormbreak Island

Stormbreak is a small island in the Sea of Swords, situated about halfway between Baldur's Gate and Waterdeep. The island itself is notable for a sheer jagged cliffs that serve as a natural storm buffer for passing ships and the Stormbreak Village.

Geography

Stormbreak Island is far taller that it is wide. The natural cliffs and mountains that give the island its namesake stretch hundreds of feet into the air. Stormbreak Village is situated on a natural cove that attracts many sea creatures, allowing for plentiful fishing and respite for smaller ships making long journeys up the coast.   The storm-wracked side of the island is uneven and often dangerous, as it's prone to rock slides. It is also distinctive for its large amount of cave systems that shelter storm-side animals from the elements.

Fauna & Flora

While most of the flora and fauna of Stormbreak is typical for a small, mountainous island in the sea, the island does boast one claim to fame. Stormbreak is one of the only places in the world where grenodo, a form of a poppy, grows. Grenodo, when turned into a powder, is highly addictive and forces its inhalers to compulsively focus on one task, often to the detriment of their own health. For this reason, inhabitants of Stormbreak tend not to tell outsiders about the plant's strange properties.

History

In early 1492, the Cult of the Dragon used Stormbreak Island as a base to force kidnapped artificers and alchemists to transform mundane objects into gold. They built their base on the stormward side of the island, utilizing an old mine system that was abandoned for being too dangerous to maintain. They were stopped due to a chance encounter with the Breadwinners.
