Firewatch Island is a small island located in the Whalebones, an archipelago in the Sea of Swords.
The small, craggy island is occupied by a small garrison-turned-monastery, which was destoryed in 1496 by the undead forces of Captain Syrgaul and the crew of the Tammeraut.
Geography
Firewatch Island is extremley small. Its most distinctive geographical features are the two large hills and tall natural spire that tower over the small monastery.
Fauna & Flora
The limited plant life on the island are most shrubs and grasses, while a small natural harbor in the back of the island collects seaweed. The damp conditions of the abandoned monastery were also ripe for various types of mold and mildrew.
Though not very large, Firewatch, like the rest ot the Whalebones, attracts a large variety of dangerous animals, including giant snakes, chuuls, and in 1496, the island became the roost for a monsterous peryton.
History
The garrison on Firewatch Island was originally established in the 1300s by House Kendrick of the Moonshae Isles, though it had been falling steadily out of focus as the influence of House Kendrick waned in the 1400s.
In 1491, during the rise of the Sea Princes, the remaining token garrison force was destroyed and the fortress was looted.
Following the fall of the Sea Princes in 1493, a small group of individuals seeking a peaceful and remote existence turned the ruined garrison into a convent and monastery for reflection. The few individuals on this island maintained their existence through small subsistence farming and fishing and trading island-made alcohol with the nearby village of Uskarn.
In late Uktar of 1496, Krisella Ferox, a young woman seeking to uncover the plans of the Aboleth S'gothgah discovered rumors of the resting ground of the Tammeraut and her crew. Fearful of having its secret be discovered, a nest of preserved kraken eggs, S'gothgah dispatched the undead crew of the Tammeraut to kill Krisella.
To hide, Krisella fled to Firewatch Island, hoping that its remoteness would protect her. However, she was soon discovered, and the island was attacked by undead, killing most of the island's inhabitants. The few remaining were only saved by the timely intervention of the Heroes of Saltmarsh, who killed and drove off the attacking undead.
Following its second ruination, Firewatch Island now stands empty, with rumors of its "curse" persuading all nearby from resettling there.
