Thurstwell Vanthampur
Thurstwell Vanthampur
Thurstwell Vanthampur was the eldest son of Duke Thalamara Vanthampur of Baldur's Gate and an active member of the cult of Zariel. He was killed by the Lost Star Detectives in 1497 during their raid of the Vanthampur Villa to retrieve Naja Bellandi's Pact with Zariel, which was in Thurstwell's possession.
History
Born to the first of Thalamara Vanthampur's husbands in 1459, Thurstwell was the most committed out of his two other siblings, Mortlock and Amrik, to his mother's ambition for power, willingly joining the cult of Zariel alongside his mother. By the time his mother had become Duke Vanthampur in 1494, joining the Council of Four, Thurstwell had begun using the services of several imps to spy on his brothers, seeking to ensure that he over them inherited his mother's power and fortune. Thurstwell's closeness to his mother was proven when High Observer Thavius Kreeg of Elturel was smuggled to the Vanthampur Villa to escape the city's coming damnation, Thurstwell was entrusted with Kreeg's infernal puzzlebox that contained half of Naja Bellandi's Pact with Zariel. During the course of the Lost Star Detectives investigation into the Vanthampurs, on behalf of the Flaming Fist, Kreeg's imp spies kept watch over them. When Alesine Zadava and Dzarya were arrested by the city's Watch, Thurstwell approached the two, commenting that he knew they had run Mortlock out of town, and Thurstwell offered to pay them to kill his other brother Amrik. On the 16th of Eleasis, the Detectives used the pretense of agreeing to Thurstwell's terms to gain access to the Vanthampur Villa. After a tense dinner with Thurstwell, the group snuck into the expansive underground beneath the villa, killing Thalamara and the hidden Thavius Kreeg, recovering the Shield of the Hidden Lord that Kreeg had brought with him, freeing Falaster Fisk, and then returning upstairs to kill Thurstwell in his bedroom, where he feebly attempted to stop the adventurers.
