Beast-Men

Beast-Men is the name given to a group of sapient species native to the Savage Land. They a humanoids, possessing human-like or near-human intelligence, and are capable of using spoken language to communicate.

Although they share a number of smiliarities, the species are no more closely related that any other two Savage Land species, as each tribe of Beast-Men evolved from a different animal. (As with other Savage Land species, the use of the term 'evolved' is contraversial, since their creation was artificial. The term 'mutated' has been suggested to be more accurate, but the scientific community has not yet reached a consensus on this subject).

Basic Information

Anatomy

Most Beast-Men resemble humans, although some markers of the species from which they evolved is usually present, such as those who evolved from lizards being scaled.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Varies by tribe. As Beast-Men are either solitary or live in small tribal groups, surnames not used by any tribe.

Average Technological Level

Primarily that of stone-age humans (although some modern or alien technology is used by some tribes, such as the Lizard-Men who use beam weapons provided to them by the High Evolutionary, or Ka-Zar's Tribe who have access to modern telecommunications via Arsenal-Alpha).

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Whith the exception of Ka-Zar's Tribe, who speak English, and the Lizard-Men, who speak Galactic Standard, each tribe has evolved their own language independantly of one another. However a longditudinal linguistic study of the Hawk-Men, Rat-Men, and Egg Thief tribes has shown an increasingly large share vocabulary, and it has been theorised that a distinct Savage Land language will emerge over the next 50-100 years.
