Black Dwarves
The Black Dwarves are one of the two subspecies of Dwarves, named for their usually dark hair and eyes.
It has been theorised that the Black Dwarves are the result of interbreeding between Red Dwarves and Dark Elves, since many Black Dwarf families trace their origins to Svartalfheim. However, this is unconfirmed due to the Dwarves isolationist culture.
Black Dwarves are typically between 2'6 and 4'6" in height, with dark hair and beards. One of the primary points of evidence in favour of the Dark Elf ancestry theory is that blue or dark grey skin is not unknown among some Black Dwarven families.
The ancestors of the Black Dwarves typically fled Svartalfheim after Malekith the Accursed became King of the Dark Elves. Malekith introduced a series of speciesist laws, defining Svartalfheim as a planet of the Dark Elves, and discriminating against the Dwarves and Storm Giants who had lived there for generations. In the present day, the Black Dwarves are found exclusively on Nidavellir, though Queen Alflyse has made it clear that any Black Dwarves who wished to return to their ancestral lands would be welcomed.
