She had a particular interest in magical history, and in 1998, moved to Kamar-Taj in order to study De Vermis Mysteriis, which was housed in the House of Wisdom. There she met and befriended the apprentice Librarian, Wong Ruìkǎn, eventually beginning a romantic relationship and becoming engaged to him.
However, before they could marry, Imei was murdered by Nil, a demon under the command of Semiramis, which killed her in order to take her place and gain access to De Vermis Mysteriis.

They met with Imei Chang began studying the De Vermis Mysteriis, which was housed in the House of Wisdom where Wong Ruìkǎn worked.
They quickly became friends and began dating a few months later. In 2001, Wong proposed, and Imei accepted.
The relationship ended in tragedy, as Imei was murdered the following year.
