Coney Island

Coney Island is a neighborhood in south-west Brooklyn. The neighborhood consists of Coney Island proper, Brighton Beach, and Manhattan Beach. It was formerly the westernmost of the Outer Barrier islands, but in the early 20th century it was connected to Long Island by artificial land, becoming a peninsula.

It was a seaside resort in the 19th century, with amusement parks beginning construction in the 1880s. These were some of the most popular attractions in The U.S.A. in the earth 20th century, but declined in popularity following World War II. Various redevelopment projects were proposed, though most never materialised. However, the area was revitalized with the opening of Maimonides Park in 2001 and several amusement rides in the 2010s.
