Hellicarriers

Helicarriers are aircraft carriers, which can operate both as ships and aircraft. The prototype for the first helicarrier was designed by Howard Stark, although the first helicarrier was not put into service until 2009.

They were used by S.H.I.E.L.D as mobile command centers.

Following the Disolution of S.H.I.E.L.D., one of the two operational helicarriers was decommissioned, while the other was handed over the US Airforce.

Original Timeline

In the original timeline, three upgraded helicarriers were constructed as part of the Project Insight mass surveilance programme instituted by HYDRA (under the auspices of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The helicarriers were destroyed by Captain America and his allies, shortly before the dissolution of S.H.I.E.L.D.
