Cedric Bourbon was created by the TCSV Odysseus shipboard computer, as an emergency measure, while the ship crash landed on Calypso. The weapon that killed everyone aboard also caused a system reboot, during which the cloning machines were offline. It was too late to recreate the entire crew through cloning, due to limitations of the system, so the computer did the one thing it could, it made a new clone of the last person whose DNA template was in the system, but the person had been dead too long so his memories couldn’t be transferred to the new body and he became a Blank instead.
Bourbon was a new pod brother of Gabriel Trent, which meant that they’re identical, save for Trent’s tattoo. But as a Blank (Slate) Bourbon didn’t have memories from a previous person, just the educational injections and the basic training injection. He also had the aid of augmented reality prompts that explained some concepts that weren’t included in the education injection.
Bourbon got his name from the barkeep in Tethys mining town, who made the name up from a holographic poster advertising bourbon and a calendar, both hanging on the wall of his tavern.

During leave on Dionysos, three weeks after he was created, he got a tribal tattoo that started on his upper right arm, onto his shoulder, his right pectoral muscle and down to his scapular on his back, as well as one bit that went up the side of his neck.

Personal history
"Born" during the crash of TCSV Odysseus on Calypso in late 2954. His physical, mental, emotional age at the time was that of a typical seventeen-year-old boy.
The shipboard computer of Odysseus assigned him the rank of Private in the TCMC (Trident Coalition Marine Corps.) Due to damage from the crash the computer was not fully functioning. It was unable to run its random name generator, which would otherwise have given him a name. Further damage to the ship made it impossible to establish communication with the Coalition Armed Forces Headquarters on Sisyphus Prime, so the computer directed the, as yet nameless, marine to walk two kilometers north-east where the nearest town was, and attempt to report the crash from there.
He was given the name Cedric Bourbon by the man who ran the local tavern, Hieronymous Barker, a strange man who everyone else in town accused of being a spy, though nobody knew who employed him as a spy.
Eventually he met up with his identical pod brother Private First Class Trent, and his friend Cadet Paolo Garcia, and they joined forces.
Once they were able to contact the Fleet, and complete the mission, Bourbon, Trent and Garcia were re-assigned to TCSV Onomatopoeia. Both Trent and Bourbon were quickly promoted to Corporals and became friends with Corporal Jesse Peters.

Trent met Bourbon on Calypso a couple of days after Bourbon first hatched from a cloning pod aboard TCSV Odysseus as a Blank.
Trent and Bourbon are identical, like a pair of twins, except that there’s about two hundred more of them. They have different tattoos, to set themselves apart from each other.
Trent, Bourbon and all their pod brothers are marines, so they can take care of themselves, but Trent is still extra protective of Bourbon as if he’s Trent’s younger brother, which is technically true.
