Gabriel Trent
Trent is one of about 200 identical pod brothers.
The term "Pod Brother" is used to refer to people who are related to each other by having the same DNA, through being born out of the pod of a cloning machine. There’s another term, "Donor Brother," which refers to the human whose DNA was used to create the clones. In other words, Gabriel Trent is a clone, and his Donor Brother was Nicholas Tyler. Trent and his brothers all came out of their pods grown to a physical, emotional and mental age equivalent of a 17 year old human, who was born the old fashioned way.
Trent and his brothers were created to be soldiers in the TCMC (Trident Coalition Marine Corps,) in an attempt to end their reliance on replenishing their ranks by tricking male prostitutes into stowing away on ships of the fleet and conscripting them into service.
Since military organizations have a habit of addressing people by their surnames, and there may be more than one of the pod brothers on any one ship, all the pod brothers were given individual names, to avoid confusion. The names were generated by a random name generator.

Paolo was loitering outside Trent's berthing compartment on TCSV Odysseus, with the hopes of getting a one night stand with Trent or one of his identical brothers. Paolo pretended to be swabbing the deck in the corridor there, just so he wouldn't be challenged for loitering, though he hadn't been ordered to swab the deck, and he wasn't on duty.
Paolo was originally in love with Nick Tyler, the orphan boy from whom Trent and all his brothers were cloned. Nick died before Paolo even knew how he felt about him, and when he first encountered a clone of Nick, after Nick's death, he freaked. Later, when he served on Odysseus, as part of his Academy training, Paolo seduced the clones that were serving on that ship, one by one, mostly to bring back the memories of Nick.
Trent's brothers on Odysseus told him that a Midshipman was getting laid by them, one by one, and he was intrigued. He found Paolo attractive, and they made out there in the corridor.
While they were still kissing an alarm went off aboard ship, and the computer ordered: "All hands abandon ship." Paolo and Trent were right next to the escape pods, and Paolo reacted quickly, ushering Trent into the nearest escape pod, climbed in after and launched them, thus saving them both while everyone else died.
After landing on Ogygia, the moon of the planet Calypso, Trent, and Paolo worked together to get out of the situation, and got to know each other better, which led to them falling in love with each other. Trent was a stoic and didn't like showing emotions, so he was frustrated by Paolo's jokes, some of them inappropriate, that risked him cracking up, but he still loved Paolo.

Trent met Bourbon on Calypso a couple of days after Bourbon first hatched from a cloning pod aboard TCSV Odysseus as a Blank.
Trent and Bourbon are identical, like a pair of twins, except that there’s about two hundred more of them. They have different tattoos, to set themselves apart from each other.
Trent, Bourbon and all their pod brothers are marines, so they can take care of themselves, but Trent is still extra protective of Bourbon as if he’s Trent’s younger brother, which is technically true.
