Invidiak

A shadow demon, also known as an invidiak, is a sinister, incorporeal demon. The product of a demon whose essence could not properly reform in the Abyss. Trapped within the form of a living silhouette, these demons are merely shadows of their former selves.

Apperance

A shadow demon appears as a cloud of darkness with bat-like wings and sharp claws. They are slightly larger than humans, but are weightless because they are incorporeal. Although they resemble wraiths or shadows they are in fact entirely different creatures. By shining a light source on shadow demons one can resolve the nearby darkness to reveal their distinct shape.

Abilities

A shadow demon can fight with its teeth and claws, and has a number of magical abilities connected to manipulating shadows. They can also blend into any available shadows to effectively become invisible. Perhaps their most noteworthy spell-like ability is their ability to trap the souls of mortals. Being incorporeal, they can phase through walls and other mundane barriers with ease. Their forms are unaffected by mortal ailments, severe temperature, fatigue and are generally hard to injure by all but magic. Fortunately, their weakness lay in their predictable aversion to light, as without darkness to hide in, their true forms are exposed and vulnerable.

Habitat and Society

Shadow demons are formed in the Abyss from envious souls. Shadow demons are unique among the abyssal creatures in that they exist outside its conventional hierarchical structure. Shadow demons normally work under the employ of more powerful agents of evil as spies, assassins, scouts, advisers, and assistants. These beings include evil dragons, wicked mortal rulers, influential demonologists, demon lords, nightwalkers, and other dark powers who the shadow demons serve well and effectively. Ancient black dragons in particular are sought out due to some mysterious link between the two, whether social or in some way biological. They prompt these beings towards acts of great and destructive evil, especially the killing of evil mortals, and take their masters' souls when they die whenever possible. 
Despite this, almost all shadow demons have secretive and underlying alligence to their creator. The Lord of Shadows Vyriavaxus, whom they view as their creator. But after he lost control over his layer to Nocticula, it is believed that the shadow demons transfered their loyalty to her, or so it is said.
