Personal history
A career NCO, Darren was one of the Royal Gloucestershire 1st company, 1st battalion privates, that were involved in the Indian Mutiny. Aged just 18, he had only recently been transferred to the regiment, as part of an attempt to bolster the unit.
As a member of 1st company, the RLIGR, he was selected to be part of the small teams inserted to gather intelligence from the enemy. This he did very well, his 5 man team spent its time feeding information to the General Staff about the presidential palace as the Royal Cypriot Regiment prepared to seize it.
Because of his experience with the RGLIR, Darren was transferred to the Queen's Own Anti-Revolutionary Company as a Lance-Corporal and was posted to the 6th section. His role was to liaise with MI5 officers in the field, getting up to date data and ensuring their protection, which he did for the entire 10 years of the existence of the QOARC, finally being promoted to Staff Sergeant in 2978. In 2980, when the QOARC was dismantled, and all of its personnel returned to their previous units, Darren was supposed to be posted back to the RGLIR. However, it transpired that about 6 months previously, the battered regiment which had been limping along for 10 years after India, was finally destroyed utterly. This caused two different reactions that were of interest to Darren. The first, he was not RTU'd and the second, he was ordered to report to Pirbright, by Colonel Macgregor as part of the training staff for the new Solent Corps light infantry regiment. In this capacity, he taught the enlisted personnel of the regiment how to be light infantry. Most recently, he became the 1st platoon, 1st Coy, 1st batt commander, with an appointment to Colour Sergeant, upon the deployment of the regiment to the Falklands.
