Dosterich Engine

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Dosterich Engine operates similar to a Fusion Drive but to greater efficiency. Recycling waste into sub-functions that allow greater thrust and lower fuel usage. A fully operational Dosterich Engine can reduce waste by ninety-nine percent whilst travelling the from the inner to outermost planet in only two standard galactic weeks. The power of the drive also allows ships of greater mass to enter and leave orbits without enormous fuel consumption making feats such as destroyer and above class ships practical without transfer shuttles.

History

Created by Mikhail Dosterich a first generation Datrisi colonist as part of the wider research program sponsored by the Imperial Navy on the colony. The Engine came about after a series of funding cuts threatened to terminate the engine department of the Datris Colony. In an effort to save his, and his peers, research Mikhail ran a series of experimental simulations combining the projects of the scientists until a successful combination was identified.    Finding a 'compatable' engine he had a prototype fabricated overnight during which he got his brother, a captain in the Imperial Navy drunk, stole his piloting license and stole his ship integrating the prototype engine alongside several other students. The engine proved to be a great success reaching Aesalia in just under five days. Though the group were arrested and tried the success of the engine led to both a pardoning of their crimes and the restoration of funding to their engine program.

Significance

The Dosterich Engine transformed space travel opening the void to those wishing to traverse it. Prior to its creaiton the journey from Aesalia to the stations or Datris was long and dangerous with resupply ships often beign stationed for emergency refueling or repairs. The creation of the Dosterich changed that allowing travel to occur over stretches of days both opening the doorway to imperial authority whilst also allowing a new wave of mass migration to the colony.   In modern times near every ship possesses a Dosterich Engine with its implementation now considered the industrial standard. Only those ships designed for short range travel and orbital racers lack the engines.
