The Capital is the central city of the kingdom of
Autara and the seat of power for its
monarchy . It is one of the largest of Autara’s urban settlements, if not the largest, as most of the kingdom's population lives in small villages and hamlets.
The city is located on the north side of the river and is a center of trade and commerce, specifically at its port and merchant neighborhoods.
The Town’s buildings are predominantly built of brick and masonry with shingle roofs.

The City Walls & The Gates
The Capital is surrounded by a high stone wall, manned by members of the city walls
The city walls have four main gates with large gatehouses connected to the city walls; These gates are guarded all day round with the gates being kept open during the day and closed at night, only opened for very important reasons. There are also a handful of smaller gates that allow access to the city, although these are often kept locked at night and are less used than the four main gates.
The West Gate
The west gate is one of the four main gates and is located on the western wall surrounding the city.
The North Gate
The North gate is one of the four main gates and is located on the northern wall surrounding the city.
The East
The East gate is one of the four main gates and is located on the eastern wall surrounding the city.
The River Gate
The river gate is one of the four main gates and is located on the southern wall surrounding the city and opens to the wharves and harbors of the city’s Portway.
The Palace
The
Palace is the home of the Queen of Stars and the royal household, as well as housing the
Palace Library, staterooms, and gardens. This is one of the oldest buildings in the capital and has many secrets and enchantments.
The Portway
The Portway is a large neighborhood located outside the city walls and accessed either by boat or by going through the river gate. The area is home to multiple marinas, many warehouses, shipyards, markets, and merchant’s and sailor’s housing.
History
The First Queen’s hometown, at the time a small urban center, was made her seat of power and grew to become the Capital. The First Queen and her early successors commissioned master craftsmen and builders to expand the capital and build important buildings, like the Palace.
