Persham

Demographics

Persham's denizens are primarily human or half-elf, with some dwarves, halflings and a sprinkling of a few other races.

Government

Being the seat of it's own local government, Persham handles the taxes of the province, as well as its defense and basic laws while adhering to whatever is mandated by the higher government of Tarragon. While the other smaller burgs within Persham are typically allowed to appoint their own ruler for the daily enforcement of smaller laws and such, any of the larger laws, defenses and taxes are all handled by those hired by Persham's Lord.

Defences

There are no formal walls surrounding the town or any proper gates really, and Persham doesn't find much need to worry about potential threats. The only wall is that which was built around the original Persham at least a couple hundred years prior when Persham was barely the size of a village and contained only a small castle home for the Lord and a couple other buildings. While Ellis Hall has since been rebuilt to accomodate a proper Lord, the walls were never changed. The small archer's towers on the walls on the only way to sense any incoming threats from afar aside from the guards posted by foot near entrances to the town.

Industry & Trade

Being the smaller province and town that it is, Persham is settled too far from the larger towns and provinces for many folks to simply leave without a good sense of security and a decent amount of coin. As such, most industry in Persham stays local, with most food, grain, and even things like clothing and farming tools all coming from the surrounding area, usually from inside Persham's borders. As such, markets are very common here, and it's not very likely for folks to be buying things that are frivolous, such as jewelry or decor. While there is not much room for the travel businesses, there is at least some demand for escort businesses, for those folk unwilling to leave for greener pastures.

Infrastructure

The Westbuton River that runs through the near-center of this town has been accomodated with walls up it's sides to ensure that it does not overfill during rain seasons, as well as attempt to keep a separation. There are only two sewage tunnels running underneath the town that empty into the river; one beneath the Ellis Hall itself and one that services various buildings in the heart of Persham that lets out under the bridge near the Westbuton Respite. Otherwise, the town is cobbled and there are a couple of bridges to cross over the river to connect Persham to the rest of it's province.

Districts

While there are no true districts in Persham, there are some areas within town that may be referred to as certainn areas of note.   The main one recognised by many is the Gooseneck Alley, a street known most for the Gooseneck Alehouse, a glorified brothel turned alehouse that still offers companionship for individuals. While not inherently a dangerous street, it can be rowdy at night--with drinking and carousing more common in the Gooseneck--and potentially sickly in the morning with some drunks having passed out on the streets before being ushered away.

Guilds and Factions

The only actual guild or faction that can be found in Persham is the Vanguard, which maintains a small lodge in Persham for those looking for side jobs in their small town, or a way out.
